Paint codes for Empi Gold?
«

Hi guys,
I am going to repaint my 8 spokes gold, and I wanted to know if anyone has found an off the shelf color which matches well, or even a paint code I can take to the paint store. I searched around and found this mentioned before, but not answered.
Looking through the paint and body store, most "gold" paint colors aren't a great match.
Thanks!

Well....Plasti-Kote #223 Universal Gold worked well for me. It goes on a little "bright" at first, but darkens up real nice. I, myself, am not aware of an original paint code........BTW how do you match a 30+ year old color?

There aren't any high end paint shops using color comparators or similar digital equipment to scan the paint near me.
There are some dealers for Plasti-Kote nearby I'll check them out.
Thanks!

This may or may not help, but back in the 70's several of us used a Ford color called "Bold Gold"

I did a quick search for Bold Gold... no luck. I did find this link to vintage Ford colors:
http://www.metromusclecars.com/FordExterior/1972ExteriorPaint.html
#6F "Bright Yellow Gold Poly" looks like it... (On the same chart, #6F "Grabber Blue" was the color on my '64 Sunroof I had in the mid 70's)
I've always liked gold wheels on certain cars... Like many things the color was abused through the 80's & 90's but I think it's ready for a comeback

Go to "In Da Works" section and look at my" '55 S/G" thread. One of the first pictures shows the gold 5 spokes that I repainted about 5 years ago with the Plasti-Kote color I mentioned.

Dave,
I also had no luck finding a color by the name "Bold Gold." But I looked at that
same
chart you linked to and I wrote down that
same
number, haha.
Gary,
I like how that color came out. It doesn't seem too bright, but how does it look in the sun?
I'm changing my wheels to gold (from black), and replacing all the black trim with new chrome, then sending out the t-bars to get polished.

That picture was taken on a clear sunny day around 2:00pm.

Well, I meant how does it look in direct sunlight. The angle of the picture has the wheels in the shade.

I used their silver on my original EMPI 8's, looks like it will match the sliver C-Stripe kit to me!

Ask Frenchy he painted the wheels gold on the 67 Ghia that was the right color gold!
