It has never happened before, they havent displayed any cars from our scene, but we have 1 aircooled beetle in the museum and after classic there will be another, yesterday we delivered Underdog 2 to the museum and even got to drive it in, It was cool to look round and see people crowding to take pictures as it was reversed in. Tommorow we will deliver Tar Babe after its day at classic so next time you visit pomona for the swap meet or any other excuse that you need, go check out the museum and try to make sure they know you came to see the Volkswagens, as they may want a couple more if there is interest in them being there, we took a couple of pictures as we moved it into it's temporary spot.

After winning Best Race Car at the Classic today, we took Tar Babe to the NHRA museum to join Underdog2. Tomorrow both cars will be moved to a more prominent position by the entrance, but for now they are in the Main Hall

I have to say that all of us at Planet Paintbox are humbled to have two cars that we have had a hand in at the museum, It's a great place and really worth visiting. I don't think there has ever been another single make of car that has given "the front engined " boys such a run for their money I hope this gives some credit to all of the people who "created" the performance and aftermarket VW industry that we all still get to enjoy today. it's a shame that some of the founders of the industry are no longer with us to finally see some exceptance to the work and innovation that has been carried out over the last 50 (PLUS?) years... It would be nice to see a cabinet in there full of VW trinkets and lets hope we get to see more historic VW racecars in the museum in the future - hey maybe it helps that Tony Thacker is an ex-pat )...Personally I think we should all be very proud that the NHRA have "excepted" these funny little german cars with the engines in the back - into the fold - so to speak and again a big Thank you to Russell...you have made some Essex boys very Happy!

Just read the feature in Ultra. The photos are awesome and getting a place in the museum is great recognition for our passion. Well done to everyone involved.

That's really funny how things happend ! And I am so happy it hampend ! Last April I was in California for the Bug-In and like last year, I took the opportunity to interview some pioneers in drag racing and other important figures from Palm Springs to Hawaii to complete the second part of the European Bug In 3 documentary "Back in the Days too" ! EBI DVD we devoted this time to the first Gassers Pioneers. Stephane Szantaï came with me to the appointment, took three weeks before, to interview Greg Sharp the historian of the NHRA Museum in Pomona. After the interview, we met also Tony Thacker, head of the museum. During the discussion we heard he was open to VW (he raced in europe in the seventies) and the collection showed to the visitors was now maide to change more often than before. Stephan suggested two cars... you see here. Stephane came the same week to shoot in front of the same museum TarBabe for Ultra VW. Small world, nice cars, cool museum Mike

It would be neat if someone put together a low-key gathering there where we could get a a couple hundred VWs in the parking lot on a Saturday or Sunday.

As far as I know, Garlit's Museum never had any VW gassers, although there is/was a Ghia and his own Split-Window sedan on display...

Did anyone notice the Dean Lowry plaque on the wall at the museum. It is posted on your left as you go into the building plaques are all around near the ceiling. It has been there for the last ten years.

Very cool. I still have my copy of VW & Porsche magazine that featured Don G. and his black Split.
