Hi

Just wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of decent quality cheap single cylinder coil pack as I'm trying to keep the cost down on my engine upgrade and I have just worked out that I will need four if I want to get rid of my distributor. they must be the external ignitor type 

Also a heads up on a decent optical crank trigger sensor would be good and a fuel pump for a 2276 efi turbo

if anone is running a stinger 4424 ecu maybe you could pm me with any tips

ron,i have a good pump to use,I will dig out he part nuber for you but it is a replacement for a 911 turbo and G&S sell them from pierburg.

For EFI fuel pump, I would get a 044 Bosch Motorsport pump and be done with it. They're about $200,- but very quiet and flow the most of all and don't fail  Wink

In early 2006 I swapped my old used bosch 044 pumps for new ones,about 100ft into my 1st pass  of the year one stopped,never did get it working so changed to the pierburg versions and they worked perfectly until the day I removed them to upgrade.Sometimes expensive just isnt any better than aftermarket Shocked

the VW 20V 1.8T (beetle/Golf/Jetta mk IV and Audi TT) coil 06B905115R are fairly inexpensive. Figure about $29 USD ea. Let me know if you need help.


we sell alot of the 0580254044 pumps with no comebacks.

Have just looked up the coils you have suggested and they run from £10 up on ebay here but I've just been on another forum and apparently I can run a audi coil pack thats two coils in one and has 4 connections, one is earth in the other switched live from a relay and the other two are coming from the 4424 to pulse the coils without using an external ignitor, this should save me a few £ as the Stinger 4424, 4 coil ignitor is around £200. i am waiting for him to come back with a part number for this. This is from someone how is running with this EMS

just had a look  on ebay and the bosch 044 pump is about £115 the OE quality pump from a third party is £58. so I'll see what G & s price richies pump at and make my decision from there 

Anyone else please feel free to chip in with suggestions 

When i get the parts together i'll list all the part numbers and post them on here for reference

hi Ron, you know I have a coil pack (4 cyl) of some sort at home, brand new in box... I think it is for AEG VW motor? But really I have no idea what it is for, but if you pay shipping and you can use it, you can have it. It was given to me and I have no use for it. Let me know if you want it.  Cool

Jim that very kind, but I wouldn't want to take it from you if I'm not going to use it as it would be a waste.

I'm hoping to get a part number form the guy on the other forum, maybe when I get it if it the one that I require I'll happily pay you for it. I would be the least i could do as you've helped me out quite a bit with advise on here.

There cant be that many 4 cylinder coil packs for vw group motors so it quite possible its the one I require

well I got the coil pack in the post with some other bits and just for referance the part number on the coil is 0 040 100 022 and is aprroximatly £25 -30 on ebay and used on the following cars

I've used (European) Ford Fiesta coil packs. Looks similar to that one. I guess the coil pictured might be more sophisticated with built-in drivers for the coil. The Ford (Bosch) coil is a plain coil.

The cheapest optical trigger is derived from an old computer mouse. Pre-optical, the ones with balls, have a total of 4 optical "gates" (2 per axis). Requires some DIY interest in electronics though. And in case used on the crank they tend to get clogged by dirt. VR sensors are better in that sense as they also work when dirty.

The coil has internal drivers and I now have everthing apart from a head temp sensor and the fuel pump. I should be good to go this season when I can get some time to pull the engine and sort things out
