Just wondering if those are new or old? Could they be from the Fittipaldi car? I don't know when that was but it was quite a while ago...

I think the Fittipaldi car used a pair of 1500's, mated front to rear. How I don't know, but I suspect with a toothed sprocket on the end of each crank, wrapped with a double row chain to allow deflection between the cranks. Just a guess

I wonder how the oil galleries were mated ?
Will it require a cooler for each boss ?

All you need to know here:
http://mestrejoca.blogspot.com/2009/03/as-entranhas-do-motor-jamaro.html
Google translation:
Exclusively for the Blog Master Joca the exclusive photos and unreleased bowel of twin 8-cylinder boxer and his new lubrication system.
After more than 30 motor driven and accelerated in 2007, it was found that the characteristics of the VW engine, the oil returns by gravity to the crankcase and valve tappets.
Just when work is linked with poor lubrication, because the ducts are longer and more demanding. This caused the wear of the bearings prior to connecting rods. We kept two of the kits 1500 new Mahle totaling 3000 cc.
Carefully studying the situation, the mechanic Mark and I, we conclude by adding an additional electric pump, used in exchange competition, which worked very well on the bench with 6 kg of pressure.
We shut the engine with Militec areas of friction now in the afternoon and is being installed in the Beetle for next week, in principle, subject to record the program on Rede Globo Autoesporte.
We conclude that this was the turning point of the engine at that time (1969) and our strategy is as follows:
1 - Before starting the engine will turn on the electric pump for lubrication prior (installed on the same level of housing to remain full).
2 - The drive motor will start operating a mechanical pump and then, following the two clocks, oil pressure, the two decide to keep running continuously or not.
3 - Let's make a break and in the future, if the engine match, order a forged crankshaft torsional and less.
4 - This week following pictures the "bicho" accelerating. Ronco bem encorpado! Snoring and stocky!
Joachim, can we call this engine JAMAR to honor those geniuses who manufactured this jewel?
You, as one of the first and only known the trajectory of this set, has the moral power to this definition.

Seems to me the exhaust port layout would favor starting with a type 4 engine.

Those 911-4's are sweet. Does it start life as the big 3.6?
