I`ve been working on a friends car. It runs a 2276, IDA, MSD motor. Problem is the number 1 cylinder is not responding at all to the mixture screw. Screw it in and nothing changes with the idle. Its getting spark, the carb is clean and there is fuel. Thing is I found he tried to start it with the stack covers on and cranked it till gas ran out of the exhaust. You think he washed the cylinder down with gas and killed it? I have`nt tried a compression check yet since its going to be really tough to get in there to fit the tester. Just looking for input while its sitting waiting for more attention.

sure looks good luke! why is the front t bar missing? is that where the front plate goes? any pics of that?

It's a tow hook.  In Arizona, where the car was built, a front plate isn't issued.

My car did that. It turned out to be an air leak, the throttle shaft bushing was worn on the one cylinder.

It still could be an air leak. You can tell by spraying a little carb cleaner or brake clean in one cylinder at a time. They should all react the same.

swap the carbs around and see if the dead cylinder moves with the carb

Sure about the spark ?

Did you try switching the 1-2 sparkplugs and see if the problems follows the plug ?  thats the first thing I do when having these problems (after checking the idle jet offcourse ;-) )

I`ll try it but its a pain just to get at the plugs. Have to pull the carb then the intake. No access panels on this car...
