On 24th July 1944, a Lancaster bomber of 57 squadron RAF Bomber Command was shot down over France.
The Flight Engineer was my Uncle Alan (Sgt A J Moore) who, at the age of 23, was the oldest crew member.
We, English, German, American, French or whatever nationality, owe
everyone like this a huge debt of gratitude for our freedom.

And here I am this year, at the crash site of his Lancaster, with a piece of his plane. A truly humbling experience.

Thank you – we will never forget.
