Late model stuff is good for internal bits and pieces. Ring gear will have a code ID'ing ratio and manufacturer. "G" or "K833" is a 4.12 r+p (33 divided by 8 = 4.125). "831" is a 3.88 set.
Late gear stacks are usually fine-tooth, not as desirable are coarse. To find ratios, count number of teeth and divide.
Before I go too much further, by "late" I am talking single side cover stuff, 1973+.
Thanks for the advice, I will look into this stuff probably this weekend when I have some time on my hands... I'm thinking I've got pre-73, as I know at least some stuff is swingaxle. Hope isn't entirely lost... I just need to go through my bentley and figure out what I'm looking at
