Hi,

Collecting parts for a new stroker motor to replace my trusty 1776cc motor

So far I have:
CB 82mm Crank
Scat 5.5 H Beams
Raised Roof Ali case
Mahle 90.5's
Engle K8 (this is the bit I'm not sure on!)

The K8 choice came from maybe using a turbo at a later date but this now seems unlikely!

What I want is a street motor that runs cool and is not too hard on the valve train, but will run a mid 13 in a full weight 63 bug. Gearbox will be close 1-3, freeway flier 4th

Looking for cam and head suggestions, tried and tested combo's Wink

Would a k8 and good heads achieve this?

Lee

Hi Lee

I had a k8 in my bug , you've been in it and know how it drove
Best time was last time I had it on the strip 13,65 but I'm sure there was more there as we got rained off and I only got one run in that weekend
Biggest limiter was the exhaust and the choke sizes in the ids I think, I'm sure it would have run a 13,5
Oh and it was 8-1 compression so could have some more there
Regards Ron

Hi Ron,

Did you get my reply to your txt earlier?

Your right, loved the way your car went with the K8,
I'm thinking more CR and bigger heads may be a winner!!

Iīm not sure if and how much more power the Web 86B will yield compared to the FK8. But its definitely quieter and more easy on the valve train compared to the FK8 (which I kinda  like for shorter stroke engines over the 86b, due to a tad more lower end torque) 2 liter & up I take the Web.
As for heads, the mini wedge or similar will be a good choice. The Web 86b does not like too large ports. CR 10 - 10,3 - 1 on V power.

In the right combination thatīs an easy 160 hp.

Nope, sticking with the 90.5's.

Would Steve Tims stage 2 heads be a good option?

Another 86b here w/CB 1.4 rockers and lifters. Heads are 40x35.5 043 castings worked by K-Roc. 9.5:1 compression on 91 – 93 octane (US) fuel.

I'm still working on getting the tune right, but so far is has no problem putting a smile on my face. Should be to the track this season some time. Oh, and yes, it runs cool and easy to drive.

I have a 2110 in my full weight street Bug.  82 X 90.5, Berg 870 / CB044 heads 42 X 37.5 valves, Berg dual springs with Berg retainers,  K10 cam, Berg 1:4:1 rockers, 48 IDA's.  Compression is only 8:25:1.  I put 93 octane gas in it. Engine is very drivable, not tempermental and hauls ass.  Stock gears in gearbox, 12.5 lb flywheel, stage 1 Pressure Plate with Berg solid center disc. I have not brought it to the drag strip (I don't have money to break and ebuild my gearbox right now) so I don't know if it's capable of mid high 13's.  I thnk so but don't have proof.

I think it would go 13's . I have done 3 engines like that but with pauter cam . I like them and will built one for my next street car too. I power depends on the head work :-)

Thanks Jim.  I was concerned that the engine would be sluggish because the compression is set on the low side of what I see many runnung with this kind of cam.  The engine is not sluggish at all.  It just seems to do whatever is asked of it.  Baby it in traffic, no problem, mash it to the floor in first, go through the gears and shift at 7 K no problem either.....just hold on.  Grin

I think it has much to do with the head work as well.  The heads are CB044 castings that were CNC ported and then hand finished by the Bergs to be like the 870 style head.  The tall Berg IDA intakes were ported to the carburetors as well.  I really want to take it to the track to see what it's capable of.
