I think 215/70's look ridiculously tall. Try a 215/65.

I bought Federal tyres in 205/70 a couple month ago, they have a nice smooth side. I haven't got good photos on the car but I found a pic on the net  Wink

Is this for your '68?  I'm running 215/65's on my '68 Cal-look Beetle and quite like the added rake from the 215/65's, along with a slightly dropped front:

in france i suppose, bruce. i've seen that tyre more that once, but hancock is difficult to find around here.

Bridgestone Dueler HT 684

They are 205/70/15 and I've been using them for years, seem to be an excellent tyre for not too bad a price (Roughly £70 each)

185/80/15 XZX?

Ahh, I see. That is just the Michelin X, not XZX. As far as I know, XZX's are only avaliable in 145's and 165's. They used to make a 175 XZX (which I'd love to have). 135's are ZX's.

Yes they are X. They have the 180R15 XAS and 185R15 XVS aswell. They also have interesting things in 205/70 and 215/70 XWX, but 350€ for one tire...

I have these on my beetle since 13 years and they run great.  These tires came originally on first generation Chrysler Voyegers indeed.  I don't know if you can buy them new still, but they were not expensive at that time.  If you can spend some money more, why not go for Firestone wide ovals, lovely tires...

I`ve got 205/65 Pirelli P6 on my notch. Pirelli`s  are the true cal-look tires not firestone if you live after drawn "rules" Wink
I love them. They are soft and give such a nice grip. Funny that some people search every tenth on 1/4 to pull out of their engines but drive with 10yrs old+ tires which are so hard that they have no grip at all. The Firestone wide O look lovely, but don`t drive them on a wet road...
Another alternative to Firestone 205/70 would be SEMPERIT 205/70. Nice and simple profile.
