Driving Hot VWs for 44 Years Strong!

« on: November 20, 2011, 23:28:53 pm »

I thought it would be cool to post 2 shots that represent my love of chop top vws.  One is of me in 1971 and the other just yesterday (2011) before a road trip with some local VW buddies to Tortilla Flats near Canyon Lake outside Phoenix.  This represents 40 years of chop top madness...since seeing them at an early bug in at OCIR in 1971.

Rick,

Congrats on both cars.  All good things do take time and it looks like the years of waiting were well worth it.

Thanks John.  Feel good about being around long enough to continue enjoying this great hobby.  The early years were great memories and it is fun to relive them with the newer crowds who have the same passion we had in the early days.  Here is another shot of me in 72-73 with another chop top project. My first shot at doing a 67 and the car in primer.

Note the goofy wheel selection of the guy I sold the car to.  I had to sell the car after finishing the chop and was hoping the new buyer would continue with the early drag car look.  Instead he put adapters and some crazy wheels (CYCLONE if I remember right) on the car.  I had intended the DDS wheels but never got to keep the car to finish it.
