I scuffed the chrome and used an epoxy undercoat. Scuffed that and painted (in 1983).

really like the look of these flat glasses. I was thinking by myself for fitting these on my bug. Are these homemade? is it cut out plexi? and how do you get the "dark look" ?

i bought mine from a guy who cut them himself from 2mm (or might have been 3mm) smoked plexiglass. are a bit rough where he cut, but once fitted to the car, you can't see.

I made mine. There are varying degrees of tint from clear to almost black. Just find a plastics retailer and buy some polycarbonate (pc or plexiglass). Use your existing glass lenses as a template and scribe the the profile and cut with a sabre-saw. Make sure you cut "small". You can use your old lense seal on the outside of the new lense and replace just as if you are using a standard glass lense....BTW, regarding my painted door handles; Back in '83 I actually had all the handles and T-bars (JSC aluminum) painted black using the same method I described above. "Monochromatic" paint schemes were very popular then, so, when I painted the car I ordered 2 extra quarts of paint and had "fizz-bombs" made of the Sahara Beige. I was able to paint all the accessories at home. I got the paint from a pretty popular place on Katella (right now I can't remember the name, maybe Shubee remembers)........ OOPS!...I REMEMBER NOW...BETZ COLOR AND SPEED. I don't think anybody makes custom rattle-can paint anymore.

it is best to make them out of LEXAN you can get it at any hobby or plastics store you can get differnt tints just use your Original lens to draw a Circle and cut it with a jigsaw sand the edges and use the Original Glass Headlight seals a lot of the guys use to paint the headlight inner housings Black it made the headlight look sunk in.. Lexan wont shatter like Plexi Glass if a rock or stone get's thrown up at it

You've got some great input here....PC is pretty standard, tho, ANd is available at plastics stores (as stated above)....Shubee is right and WEIGHT is a big factor!

Originally this car came with plexi but they had turned purple over the years so i had some cut out of grey tinted glass.

These are mine, made of 5mm plexiglass but soon to be replaced by 4mm makrolon (lexan) due to safety aspects.
