As some of you guys know, I was in New York City for the first time, while on a business trip a couple of months ago. I was only there for a few days and didn't have a lot of spare time, but I made the most of it.

Here are some pics. More in the gallery at this link, and slide show view here...

The Brooklyn Bridge. I walked across to add it to my "bridge list" - others include the Harbor Bridge in Sydney, Golden Gate Bridge in San Fran, Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado

Mmmm, what's a trip to NY without having a slice??

Views from my hotel room on the 24th floor - I was amazed to find that the windows opened all the way up!

Grand Central Station

Hi-po police cruisers... Wink

Saint Patrick's Cathedral

Central Park. It's amazing that someone had the foresight to set aside a large chunk of land years ago, and that it's such a cool place right in the middle of a bustling city. I walked the length of it (it's huge!)

Dave wasn't home... (or least that's what they told me)

Times Square & various downtown shots

Team Potato Head Racing invades Toys R Us (all four stories of it!)

Took the subway from Grand Central Terminal to the Battery Park area, then walked to the Brooklyn Bridge from there. Sat next to a girl from Texas - ha! Wanted to check out the World Trade Center site, but there's not much to see now, as they've got it walled off while building the monument. I did find out that Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty is a lot farther offshore than I expected it to be.

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!
Seriously though, very nice pics. Look's like you had a good time and good weather.
See any VW's?

Thanks for sharing, Henk. The weather was cool and cloudy when I was in NY - of course the sun came out on the morning that I was heading home. I thought that the rain was going to suck, but it wasn't bad at all, and everything being wet made for some pretty cool pics.

Thanks, Dave.

I didn't really know what to expect, but I did a ton of walking and saw a lot of cool places/people/stuff. It was a good trip (even though I wasn't free during business hours).

Thanks, Tero!

What's the scoop on that picture?? The guy with the gun looks like Denzel Washington.

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

It was definitely a nice place to visit, but I think the novelty might wear off quickly for me if I lived there, and I'd quickly want for more open spaces.

I didn't see any VWs while I was there, but I think that this crowd of police may have been looking for a certain 2.1 liter, IDA equipped, 5-speeded, red '74 that cruises in the vicinity... Wink

I wish I knew you'd be here. I would of found time to meet you and show you some of the less tourist places.

Maybe next time send me a email.

Duh. I wish I would have contacted you too, as I was thinking that I didn't know anyone in the area. I've have some great experiences meeting local VW folks in my travels around the world - I'll definitely give you a shout if I'm back in your neck of the woods again!

The last VW visitors had to finish a corned beef sandwich at the Carnegie Deli.

So come hungry.

It's not nice to tease a guy who's hours away from a real deli. I'd sell my soul for a hot roast tongue
sandwich on rye with mustard, fries and a cold beer. Oh ya, and one of those kosher dills too.  Grin Grin

It was him. There was a filming setup on a street we walked by. Movie is called "Taking of Pelham 123" or something similar.

Nice pics, Henk! Did you take the taxi to Cheetahs? Wink

Hehe - took me a second too. "Lids" is a retail chain that sells all types of hats - primarily sports related ball caps.
