not an expert. but they where planned to be produced as early as 62 (notch, square and vert, no fastback yet). only a couple were made. I think I have seen one or two at Hessisch a few years ago (that was a real one, but what you see there is rarer than hens teeth most likely)

There is a Facebook page called VW Notchback Cabriolet Prototype it's open access (you don't have to be a member of the page to view) has some cool information on it. Found these brochures on there.
