185/80x15 tyres

Michelin XWS are also available in 185R15.
I had no problem pulling them with my stock 1300cc.

Picking up on this post again. I ended up with 205/70r15 on the rear of my Bug (Hankook as they were easily available).
I now need to fit new front tyres (puncture today and not worth getting the existing 165/80r15 fixed). Returning to this post I am set on 155/80r15.
The only ones locally are very expensive, so looking at what Camskill in the UK stock as I've had success getting Pirellis for my Volvo XC60 from them (landed in NZ fitted for 2/3 of the cost of buying them here).

I guess the choice from this is Vredestein or Toyo....given my rear tyres are a modern tread pattern I'm not set on a period looking tyre. Has anyone got experience of the Toyos?

Looking at the tread pattern they look to be the same as my Toyo 330s that I run on the back of my bug ( 195/70, bought several years ago), I read that the 330s were intended for pre 1990 cars so maybe the 310 are a revised specification.
As a tyre I think the Toyos are a good quality product and wouldn't hesitate to buy them if they were in a size I wanted. As for road holding I can't really say as having a nose down Cal Looker , I don't drive it hard round corners ;D
