suit to the topic : cal look wheels lets see yours (last page with my wheels) , I was to interest to buy the  maico discs brakes  Grin, but after several days of reflexion and put questions  Huh, I believe that I any more will not take them (not having comfirm my purchase) Roll Eyes
here reasons: by looking at well the disc and the flask of this one,the circumference of those one appears similar to me with the  356A porsches brakes drums and considering my problem with my brakes 356 is that I cannot put my torq trust D rims  I think that the problem it would be repeated with the discs, I think that the diameter of the drum is  325mm but I don't know that of the maico, but I awaits information by jurgen which has a set on its oval (DFL KLUB)
the other reason then i can't put my torq trust D on the brakes drums is the spoke of this one she's plunges directly after the flask of or that touches the drum
 here's some pictures tried to compare the maico and 356 drums  thanks to allow me to see there more clearly , because I like really those one  but I don't want to put money in brakes which will not go with my rims  Embarrassed

and here's a little draw i made  just to see what the maico represent behind the wheels , and you can see he's just behind the curve of he spoke Angry  and with the 356 drums she touch(the spoke) at the place where the spoke start  Angry

Please don't get this Wrong!!!

But get your Motor rebuild and spent your monies on a Nice Engine Case, your's does not give Justice to your Car...

I personnally think that a Painted Engine Case is a Big NoNo...specially in such a nice Car!!!

Hi! In an Old "Gute Fahrt" issue (July 1964) there was an article about the Maico´s-unfortuanetly article is only in German....
Basically conclusion is that the Maicos are not better than the standard drum brakes-they only have the advantage that they
do not have to be adjusted. Our club member Juergen runs those brakes on his Oval as mentioned-but he also states that the brakes are more "show than go" Wink

another interesting detail: The Type3 shown in the article is described as "VW 1500 S, ATE experimental car running disc brakes both front and rear" (!!). Not too bad for a 1964 5x205 car...

Maybe it´ll take a few seconds more as the cooling of the rotor is a bit better....

i think the top picture is a beetle and it has indeed a different boltpattern. the bottom one could be a 5 lug too bad they run covers otherwise we could see it better. but the type3 only had brakes on the 66 model cars starting with the fastback production. so maybe it has 5 lugs...

i'm asking jurgen about the diameter and i've just receive the answer the rotor is 315mm and 356A brake drums is 325mm
jurgen said onthe mail :Complete Diameter is 315 mm.The Spokes of your Wheels are between the holes.There is more place.That diameter is 250 mm.The first problem is then the Brake-Caliber

If you have a big engine don't use the breaks . I drove a car that goes 12's at bitburg and it was an adventure to get the car slower after the finishline . The standart drum breaks work better !!

As I understand it, the calipers are the same used on Maico scrambler bikes from the period, of which there are still a semi regular supply on a well known auction site. I have never seen another disc brake where the caliper sits inside the disc, they look nuts, and that australian set looks awesome. I have seen the rotors sold separately before, but it would be good to have the dimensions of the caliper mounting bracket stored on line somewhere so that people can have them custom made if they have the rotors only, and also, any markings on the caliper so they know what model number to look for  Wink

i think the ATE test notchback used porsche 356 C or early 911 (901) brakes!

and check on Carrera B 356's they also had inverted discs like the maico setup... only today.. even more $$$ than a set of Maico's...
