Great post and pictures!!!!  Thanks for putting this up.

My first trip to a drag strip was to Lions.  I would have been like 5 years old I think.  I remember seeing the Ivo 4-engine drag car up close in the pits.

Lane Evans also designed my "Announcing"  business cards....  BTW / ANYONE interested in a collectible art piece by the world renowned James Ibusuki that depics The famed racers..."Big John" Mazmanian and Doug "Cookie" Cook racing their popular "Willy's racers depicted at the world renowned Lion's drag strip. This is a highly collectible art piece that is never seen for sale and is signed by Big John,Doug Cook, and the artist,James Ibusuki, and is framed, numbered, and certified. This has been in my personal collection for several years. The most recent sale of this epic piece was sold @ $1250. USD.  Serious Only/ dynodonmc@aol.com   Thanks...

Dyno, when James was painting that Pomona image, he contact me about a photo I had, taken by the late Charles Strutt. He wanted to look at all the people in the background to paint each of them exactly as they were (clothing, shoes, hats, jackets, etc). Amazing attention to detail.

Dean, That is very cool to know as everyone who has seen this epic piece seem to notice all the intricate details that make it such a nice rendering. The other artist I use to hang with in the day, was the Very talented Kenny Youngblood who blows my mind with his stuff, to this very day.  Sweet Dreams , Dyno

Didn't lions have rollers at the starting line? The cars could line up and start turning the tires before being set free for a rolling burnout? Swore I saw a Rodders Journal pic of that
