Hi all new member here from Ireland. this is my project 77 bug soon to have a little cal look treatment.
the bug has been off the road since 1999 and stored in a shed since then, so the body is in excellent condition for an irish car.it`s had one exterior repaint at some stage but has never been welded or bodged over with the usual concoction of newspapers, chicken wire and body filler Grin

car was filthy when i got my hands on it so any free time i`ve had lately has been spent cleaning and detailing. the body is coming off over the winter to restore the pan properly, then hopefully early next year i`ll be on the road. if things go to plan i hope to have a 2110cc motor fitted before next summer  Cool

here`s a few pics of where i`m at with it at the moment

i`ve just had the original engine crankcase align bored, full flowed, bored for 90.5s and decked. hope to have this built up over the next 6 months or so. in the meantime i`m on the look out for a cheap 1600 to get the bug on the road.
more pics over the next few weeks as we get stuck into the chassis resto  Grin

for the floor under the RHD pedal assembly, there are some repro floor pans with the correct pressing to take the piece of steel that the pedals bolt to. Sadley I didn't write down the brand  Sad

2 year old thread back from the dead. Thought I'd add a little update. Things stalled when I moved to the UK in early 2013,  the bug stayed at home while I found my feet in a new country and with a new career too. I didn't touch the car until summer this year when I took a weeks holiday to try get the car back together so it could be transported over to the UK.

A friend in ireland had finished off welding in the irs conversion I had started, another friend called over one evening and welded in my new floor pans. Thanks colm and Simon

Nice quality 18 gauge floorpans from kaferland

Time to put the body back on so it can be transported

So the bug arrived over to me in july and I started to take it apart again to finish the pan and attend to some rust I had found

I decided to buy a welder and do the repairs myself over the winter while I gathered engine parts to build a 2276.
The heater channel bottom plates will come off so I can blast and paint inside the channels,  the whole underside of the body like over the gearbox and under the fuel tank will get blasted and repainted too.

Cheers yeah I think Simon is glad I left ireland as I was always calling on him to weld this or that over the years, colm is a fellow vw guy and has some good fabrication skills, he was the right man to finish the irs for me.

Motor plans have changed over the years, first was 2110 then 2276 then 1955 then 1600 now back to 2276 and I'm making sure it's built before I change my mind again  Wink
