how to fit Porsche 911/912 steering wheel in Bug
«

Hi,
I would love to replace my original steering wheel of my 1964 bug with a Porsche 911/912 steering wheel from 1965-1968 (Correct me if I'm wrong).
Who has a steering wheel like this in his bug?
Does it fit on my original steering column?
Can I still use my original flashing indicator switch?
What else do I have to replace to fit it?
Thanks!
Yannick

That hub speedwell posted is already riveted to the porsche steering wheel. The porsche wheel will bolt right up to the vw but they don't fit right and the wheel will be way to close to the turn signal switch. You need to drill out the hub and space the wheel out from it. 911 and 912 wheels are too big in my opinion (400 and 420 mm) the 914 vdm wheel is best at 380mm. I had a spacer hub machined as well as the small piece to take up the space behind the hub so there isn't a gap to the turn signal switch.

I have one in my '67!
It's a while since I fitted it and from what I remember the splines on the wheel are too deep inside the plastic 'cup' behind the spokes- ie when you remove it the wheel fits fine.
I cut down the cup so that the end of the splines were flush, and I know it sounds a little rudimental but I filled in the empty space of the cup with bondo and inset the indicator cancelling tab from a regular VW steering wheel before it set.
The indicator stalk is a little closer to the wheel due to the dish being less, but it isn't a hindrance.
