blaster coil 2

Anybody has mounted blaster coil 2 with stock distributor?
Have you also mounted the ballast resistor?

Personally I wouldn't run a Blaster coil. I've run the same Bosch Red coil for 25 years or so with no problems. I have heard of alot of problems of Blaster coils going bad. Regardless, you will need a ballast resister when running points with a Blaster or Bosch Red coil.

I just removed my blaster 2 coil because my perlux went bad and when I put regular points in, they just burt up. I put a stock blue coil in with the stock bosch black and white wire points.

If I put a balast resister in on the hot side of the coild, could I run the blaster 2 coil with the points?

Thanks, I'll put a set of cheap points in with the ballast and see how long they last. I don't want to mess up the new set of white stripe bosch points I just bought. I am having a hard time finding places that carry them. I bought both sets a little shop in chino had a couple weeks ago. At $12.00 a set, they said they don't sell very many and might not order any more. I asked them to get another two sets and I would pick them up, but they havn't called me saying they got them yet.

I have a Mallory distributor and I'm thinking about putting some extra kiloVolts to bump up the spark.
Thing is... What is a 'ballast resister'?
And where should I look for it?

I've been running an MSD Blaster 2 coil, MSD 6AL and a Bosch 010 with an Pertronix Ignitor and resistor less rotor for 3 years of daily driving with no ballast resistor. It came set up like this when I bought the car. .

Do I need one?

I tried a blaster coil with a 009 and a compufire in it.  Fried 2 compufires...    For me it was a no go.
