Up for sale is the “Holey Moley” drag car that was
built by Arnold Birky in 1980. The car is 1970 with a IRS pan that has been converted back to swing axle. From what I have found out through others that helped with the car, is that it was only raced 1 time in 1981 at the Fremont drag strip. The car then spent its life parked in Arnold’s garage until 2 years ago when another owner bought it. I then purchased the car from that owner last year. I have taken the car completely apart and everything has been gone through. The car is in VERY VERY nice shape for its age. The paint, lettering and pin striping is all original. The brakes and master cylinder where changed and freshened. An original Hurst line lock was added. A 5 Gallon Fuel cell with foam was added with a -8 fuel line from front to back. All An fittings were used. Holley Electric Fuel pump, with regulator. The interior is all is GREAT shape. Added a more modern poly seat with New 5 Point seat belts. Hurst style shifter with line lock button. Carpet was all replaced and glued in. All the wiring has been gone through and updated. Autometer tach with Autometer Pro Control. Wheels are Centerline wheels. Tires are all M&H. Front runners are new and the rear Slicks are used with maybe 50 passes on them but have tons of life left. Rear drums have press in studs and the front drums have screw in studs. There is nothing on this car that has not been taken apart and restored, or replaced with new parts. I myself have only run 3 passes on the car. Best 60 foot is a easy 1.71. Best 1/8 mile is 7.84 at 84mph. Best ¼ mile is 12.66 at 99mph. There is more in this car for sure. The 4th gear in the trans is a waist of time and pretty much slows the car down. Thus is the reason I may have it swapped to a 1.04 4th before the car sells to further see what the car runs. If you convert the 1/8 mile time that it has run you will know that this is a easy LOW 12 sec car. The car runs Very Very straight, and would be an awesome bracket car or Easy 12.90 car. I myself think that the car for the most part should be kept the way it is. It would be best to keep it in the 12’s so the true originality can be kept without changing it for safety reasons. But the car right now as it sits possibly could run 11.90’s as well. But it will really take some time to sort out the combo to run it at its full potential. Some parts will have to be swapped (Like the trans all together with different gear ratio’s and the 45 dells will have to be swapped for some IDA’s). The ONLY reason I am selling this car is for personal reasons. I need to focus my attention on re-starting and selling my stainless VW exhaust parts.
