Thought I would post about the lastest updates on my cars. Not much has been done on the blue '68, though I'm still keeping it clean and driving it from time to time, and it's still the perfect driver (waiting for its new engine...). The white one is now my daily driver, though last summer and autumn I took some time to completely revise it, rust-proof it, and detail it. I've spent hours underneath it cleaning it and painting everything underneath the chassis, wheel arches, hoods and fender with epoxy paint. It had only a couple minor rust issues that I fixed and it's now ready to go for a few more years. I tried as much as possible to preserve the original paint, on the outside only a few spots have been painted or treated with Rustol. It's not a show-car result, it's not perfect but it's clean enough for me and I did that on a few weekends only, still driving it daily during the week.
A few pics.

Thanks! I've also cleaned up things underneath the front and read hoods. Beer is the sweetest working companion!

great work on the underside of your 68: I am doing the same at the moment and your pics keep me motivated in the cold workshop That's a pain in the a** to do, especially if like me you are doing it without taking everything apart, underneath the car and you keep on driving your car daily. It's not a proper restoration, but after this you will be quiet for many years to come regarding rust issues. Once everything was done, I sprayed some wax on the underside, in places are hard to access, all around the body. I don't know the name of that wax in english, but it's a wax that prevents rust. Ask your local bodyshop they must know about this!

I will be using Ovatrol oil as rost stopper and then an Ovatrol based primer and Ovatrol based chassis paint. I heard a lot of good things about this stuff and I am really curious how it will work...

I use some of these products since a few years too, especially the clear varnish they have, so far it seems to work really well!

Well I kept all of the parts, and last months I picked up another set of rebuilt and ready to go Weber 40IDF with a set of jets. I did a list again of everything I have/what I need to get. Mostly I'm just missing a few of the small engine tin parts, a Bosch blue coil, a generator, pushrods which I still don't know if going with aluminium or steel, and I have to have my heads modified for dual valve springs and unleaded gas. I moved in a new place so I hope I'll be able to continue with this in a few months!

Oh and I am still unsure about using single or dual valve springs with the SLR VX290 cam, deciding about the pushrods will also depend on this.

[ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] That thing is still being driven around. Not sure you can still call it a Cal-Look. I've raised the front a bit since I've been drving the car into a few historic car rallies and hillclimbs and I needed more clearance for the badly maintained mountain roads we have here. It's also handling better into corners with a less stiffer front suspension. Maybe it's also because I'm getting old and I like a bit of comfort Besides the Porsche wheels and Nardi steering wheel the only other thing I added to it is a Tri-Mil exhaust. Nothing else has been restored or repainted on the outside and the interior of the car. I'm trying to preserve it that way with all of it's scratches, dings and dongs (I might have added a few "non-period correct" ones ) Next update hopefully in less than another decade
