I wouldent do it, but these are the things that can make a car stand out from the crowd.  Wink

Couldn't agree more.

Do you agree that it makes the car stand out or that you wouldn't do it??  Grin

HAHAHA!!! Whew... thanks, that's truly funny.

Anyhoo, Yvre... did you ever obtain the plans that you were looking for to create the '67 convertible decklid? Hope so. Please post up some pics of it. Be cool to see it.

IMHO that deck lid is Kustom... not Cal Look.

The difference is the sunken license plate... That's where you cross the line.

And while I like El Diablo Gris, it does really straddle the line between Cal-Look and Resto Cal and  Kustom/Hot Rod.

El Diablo is different- the customization done there is very subtle, put a license plate on it and at first glance it would just look like another 'vert lid.

Gotta agree with Rick... I don't care for the bumps, but the rest of it looks great. Put a license plate on it, and you have functional beauty.

Couldn't agree more.
Today there are to many cookie cutter cars out there all it takes is Money you go buy a  VW  add flat 4 BRM's,Sprint Stars,Gas Burners,8 spoke or 5 Spoke Copys, Drop the Front end, Add Gauges ,Built Motor & Trans,Flat 4 Rosewood Wheel, Paint it and your Done. The Cars Done Today are more of a Full Stock Restoration then add the Above. Lets Face it Not everyone in here  can Afford a $100K  + Rolling Blackout or A Gates Split Window, ECT. That Is Not Saying That The Cars We Can Afford to Build are not Nice. It is nice to want to have something no one else has  but that eighter takes alot of Money or alot of you own Ideas and Blood,Sweat and tears to get it Done to me you have alot more Pride in your car When you do it yourself and use your own Ideas when you build a car you should always  build it the way you want it not copy  something you see in hot VW's  Back when I was in DVB with Frenchy they had 37 Members in the Club and there was not One Car the same. just my 2 cents cuz I spent the Rest Grin

Interesting.. very interesting... so cal look lies in between changing something a little bit, and not changing anything at all...  it's a hard line to walk thats for sure  Grin Grin

Contrary to what alot of people believe these days, a large number of Cal Look cars in the 70's were simply stock, including trim, cars that were lowered , nice wheels, and some engine work. That was a big part of the look whether you agree with it or not. There was no line to walk, it's just the way alot of people did it and nobody gave a second thought about it.

That's not what I said. Doing something like a ChopTop is a major change yet is still Cal-Look. Putting Yosemite Sam Back Off mudflaps is a minor change.. yet is not cal look.

Yeah, this is going on Carly's '67 as part of its make over- ive got an old 4 vent '70s lid that I might take a vent section out of to go behind the license plate. There will be more pics around as and when I work on the car, but my '64 is taking priority at the moment.
