I guess this tread could be called "acquired taste" to, but what is done is done. The vw trends move in circles, things fall out of grace after a few years, and is taken back into the heat so to say..... every10 or 20 years. I remember thinking T bars to be but ugly when I first started reading VW stuff back in 89, but they grew on me and since 98 I like them... but now they are everywhere so they are loosing their appeal again... hehe. But anyway, name a few parts you have changed you mind about My three: - T bars - 0 offset Centerlines (bubble center) - Lucas indicators

My tastes regarding Cal Look stuff hasn't changed since I first saw the Cal Lookers around So Cal in the late '70s. I still dig unpolished Fuchs five spokes and 2.0 liter wheels, BRMs, full body trim, dechromed, t-bars, bumpers, and a tidy engine compartment.
What I've NEVER understood or liked on any kind of car:
Flames Stripes Scallops Glass packs Chrome wheels Blue dot tail lights Overly narrowed front beams Un-functional accessories (can't stress that one enough!) Headlight eyebrows & windshield visors. (who the hell thought of those brilliant pieces of fecal matter?) Chromed engines (really makes zero sense to me, since chrome retains and raises heat temp. levels, besides looking like you're trying too hard.)
I'm sure there many other things... but those are the first that came to mind.

I can't think of any parts in particular that I used to hate and now love; in fact the the older I get the less stuff I like! However I like a can appreciate more a lot more cars than I used to. back in the day I turned my nose up at any VW made after 1967, but now I can totally dig a nice late model bug. Earlier this week I got to drive a nice little orange '73 standard bug. It's a one owner car sold locally at Vern Hagestad VW and was unrestored but well maintained and in very nice condition. And I loved it!

I really disliked bugs in general. I always laughed at Guillermo for his slow bug when I was driving two stroke seventies racebikes. And when I got into aircooled, it was through busses and later Type threes. But I got the opportunity to drive a friends 60 bog stock bug in Walifornia during the Bugshow in Spa and was hooked from the first stomp on the gaspedal (which wasn't spectacular considering the 1200, but still). The feeling you get from the very hands on driving is irressistable. From there on they grew on me and now I have two and wouldn't trade them for the world.

empi 8 spokes. i hated them, but they were the right wheel for my car. would never have seen it otherwise now. love them!
type3's in general, a pain in the ass car to build and still slower as all the rest. but it was and still is my big love over beetles, so i'll hang onto them . again love them!

Thank you. I never got the chromed motor thing either. Most of the chrome tine we sold looked like complete crap anyway, more like hazy nickel. The worst is chromed stock VW fan shrouds... somebody actually paid to have a good VW shroud bathed in chrome. Ick besides "Krome Motors" there are lots of other things I've seen recently, in this "era" that smack of "trying too hard."

Berg linkages- always thought they looked like big heavy ugly industrial pieces of angle iron, and over engineered, until I felt one from the pedal end. Just feels 'right'.

For me, '68 and later.
I always thought the good stuff ended at '67, but since I got my '69, I have turned almost 180º
Except for the padded dash. Bleh.
