Story of the Super Flo head?

Jim Ratto:
Who knows the history of the Super Flo VW head?
Was it orginally released by ARPM as a DYNOSOAR head? I used to run DYNOSOAR valve covers on my Super Flos, before the Berg Cover Connection kit came out.

When did Bugpack begin marketing the head? Bugpack also marketed the aftermarket 2 and 3-piece cases... were these ARPM units?

And the Super Flo II head... why did it come about? I would think if a guy wanted to face the compromises of running a SF configuration head, they'd want the full advantage of the big ports.  ?

While I was frustrated with some of the aspects of running the Super Flos (getting tin to fit, cooling, fan housing vs. carbs, trying to get valve covers off with motor in car...), they sure ran hard.

Dean Lowry developed the Super Flow heads originally, but for the reason why Bugpack later came out with the S/F head, you'll have to ask them...... Interesting story.

Hey Deano, Do you know what year that was ? Pete's Dragon was the first engine that we built using S/F heads, and case - That was in 1986.

 Thanks Tony

Talking about digging up old topics, Wow!!

On a related issue, does anyone have information or knowledge for the Dynosoar "3 liter" engine cases?
Really any information on the 3 liter project at all ... !

Thanks,
TxT

Some years ago I was at Bugpac when they were located on Cadillac in Costa Mesa.  Rick Sadler took me out back and showed me a couple of containers that had all of the ARPM castings that had come from Dino.  I don't remember if Bugpac bought all of the stuff but there was some story there.  I suspect the original molds for these heads were in that container.
