time to revive my topic...
broke the box yesterday, coming to freddyfiles
so i am now searching for a box again
i am still in a dilemma to use short 3 and 4 or not...
i would like these gears are a bit snappier,
and 1/4 mile is not so important.. i dont race it so much anyways
what do you guys think?
thanks, Peter

I was looking for exactly the same thing from my gearbox - ended up with the following:
4.125
3.44
2.00
1.32
0.93
Will let you know how it feels when I fit it!

ruff ive got a 3.88 ring and pinion with 3.78,2.21,1.58 and 1.21 which makes it about 60mph in 4th at 3200rpm and 70mph is 4000rpm in 4th.thinking about putting a 1.04 4th to drop the revs a little and not loose to much on the strip.whose got a 1.04 4th with a 3.88 r+p and what speed at 60 and 70?

hi guys,
because i didn have more money to spare, i chose for stock ratio's
this is what will be installed in a few weeks
Rancho Pro Street Plus (Same as Pro Street with these Extras) $1199
Trans comes complete axle to axle
3.78 Super Beetle 1st
4.12 K ring and pinion
Chromoly Pinion Plate or Nut
SAW Axles for (Swing)and Boots
like i said, most of the time i will be driving on the street, and never use slicks, so lets hope it stays together

just wondering, what would he need to be able to do burnouts? it sounds like a nice 'box to me...
p.s. ruff, what bothers me about the belgian freeway is the asphalt, pretty lethal without dropped spindles. is that what you mean?

Go for a super diff and some heavy duty side covers and you are fine for burn outs(even in first gear)

what's the difficulty scale of upgrading a stock gearbox with a super diff and HD side covers, once you have build a hi-po VW engine?

You need to shim the ring and pinion(preload) and set the backlash.
It is not just exchanging the diffs .

its the torque of the 2litre plus.if its only run on roads and not the dragstrip it,ll be fine.slicks and traction will make it a mess
