40 p11's on Gene's manifolds and cool linkage.

With all the chat about 40 p11 carbs in another thread I thought i'd dig out a set I have and find out a little more info.
This is a complete kit with all linkage, fuel lines, shroud and Gene's manifolds.
The carbs are a total loss but could be used for some small parts. Linkage still works smooth and tight. My question is, was this a kit offerd by Gene back in the day or was this linkage some other make? From what year roughly?
I see Sarge had the same manifolds.

Hey Geoff, I am pretty sure my friend John is running that exact same set up on his old school roller crank engine. I will get some pictures next weekend. I thought the shroud was 356 stuff?

The linkage is 356. Ironically, I was synching the carbs on my neighbors 356 and came home to see this thread. Same linkage. Those must be the only set of P11's I know of that don't leak through the throttle shafts..................

The linkage is for a 356/912, but the shroud itself, not sure, the bottom piece for the linkage is riveted on, I believe they are spot welded on originally. But it's been awhile since I built a 912 motor. Cool set-up though.

That fan shroud looks VW to me and the pop rivets holding the linkage to the back don't look too official. 356 / 912 cylinder tins are in four pieces and come up higher on the fan shroud, too. As for the linkage, that looks like Porsche stuff adapted to a VW shroud with the fan velocity ring thrown on for good measure. Gene's linkage has always been basically the same as far as I can remember... much like it is today only way simpler in the early days. The manifolds I had were made of magnesium and shined up nice after the metallic blue paint was striped off. I remember all the "fun" I had changing spark plugs with those shorties...

Sarge has it. That's an early 40hp shroud with the 356 linkage & venturi ring added on. I wanted to do that linkage to AssHull's shroud, but he already has Berg linkage, I feared the behind-the-shroud linkage would interfere with the T4 cooler, and his shroud has already been through enough welding!!
The square detent at the top of the VW shrouds I always presumed was for oil bath air cleaner clearance... so why was it on the Porsche shroud as well??

I think for industrial applications (single carb Porsche)
