D.B.O. Not a club; a state of mind.

« on: May 02, 2009, 19:40:45 pm »

In the middle of the parking lot, founding members of D.K.K. from 1976/'77.

Every time I see this car, I smile and wish that my parents were still here. We owned two of these in that color.

Europe invades So Cal... film at eleven.

When Don pulled in, I was stoked to see that he chose the hardtop. This was one of the first Cal Look cars that I saw in person when I was in junior high school. For me, it's a time machine that reminds me of my youth and a more carefree era. So cool that's it still on the road in it's great original state of being.

Mark Ramirez admires another time machine from days long since passed. Actually, from the very same year as Metz's car.

Harris' car is alive and has survived the elements of time. Seeing both Metz's and this car at the same place, at the same time, was and still is extremely surreal for many of us that were from that circa.

Let us look back at how a Cal Look cockpit was arranged. Mr. Peabody, kindly set the Way Back machine to the year 1977. And do hurry, for leaded gasoline is rather scarce, these days.

Another prime example. Take note of the typical under dash mounted 8-track player in addition to the hurculon fabric inserts throughout the dash. That's how things were done, back when gas pump prices were a scant 85¢ a gallon.

When Stephan asked me if this car could block me in and park in front of my car I was honored. Of course, I said yes. I'm always glad to see my friends and extended car family, but seeing old Cal Lookers, like this, reminds me of why I got started in all of this in the '70s.

Is it real, or is it Memorex? If you know what I'm referring to, then you know. If not... study, if you will, for a moment longer.

Overview of yet another great get together at Nick's.

Us So Cal natives don't do rain, much. So it rained not only water on some cars, but turns out... an odd image or so on Mr. Mason's car. (disclaimer) Dave, I didn't do it. I'm merely the messenger.  Grin

But, as the old saying goes, all good things must sadly come to a close. Brian & Danny Bug out for a brief intermission till Bug-In.

Much thanks and kudos to Nick's & Der Kleiner Panzers for hosting such a fun event. Class act, all the way.

Great pics and commentary Mark as always!  Had a good time yesterday although I chickened out and high tailed it outta there shortly after the sprinkling started. Seeing Don Metz' car and Harris' together WOW!!   I've known Don some 5 or 6 years now and last night was the first time seeing that car it is so cool true time capsule there. See everbody tomorrow!!!!

You're all very welcome. Jason, I told Don that I was really happy to see him bring out that car. I haven't seen it since he and I worked together at Circle Porsche+Audi in the mid '80s. He picked a great night for it, too. We were stoked to see the '67 pull in the driveway.

i love that red '67. how cool is it to see another survivor pop up!
and the car is so simple and clean, but it just has an air to it. very nice!! Grin
did you take any other pics of it, mark? i like that overview pic too!

p.s. the lens looks cool, but the roundness to the overview picture is a shame. i would've liked to see that will a normal lens Wink

looks like my bros had a great time.... thanks for pics Mark. Sorry couldn't make it down, been a bad week and too much to do fixing the kitchen back up and having to finish a set of heads in a hurry.... not enough time for getting out,

thanks to Hecklin' Henry and his girlfriend Carlita for the "WTF are you?' phone call. Guess Carlos had nobody else to rip on. Grin

see ya all in a month or so
