Is it just me or does everyone need to take adeep breath and back away from the Photoshop. I see way too many pictures lately that have way too much saturation, way too much sharpening and just dont look natural.
Some interesting shots in that group but they are manipulated beyound belief.

No I think its just you...
If your using a picture to sell something, I guess you
would
be stretching the truth by way of touch ups... but in this case its just great affect and artistic.

No, I understand touch-up. I am talking about when you sharpen and play with saturation and contrast levels so much that they dont look like real life. (aside from sepia or B&W of course)

Yep... I agree. At least there were a few finished stockers and Cal Lookers in that gallery. I can't get my mind wrapped around the theory of "showing" a rusted out car. Worse; shooting photos (that's being nice) of said safety hazards. Other than that, yeah... lighten up on the over usage of saturation, sharpening, etc. Let the camera do the work instead of "touching up."

Definately....
There are some great shots there, but some of them my eyes can't see properly....(!?!)

Hey Dave, I agree with you about the de-saturation and I'm really sick of HDR effects. I prefer to get it all in camera, like the old days. Shooting ektachrome and cross processing used to be fun to mess with.
Since I've gone digital things have changed a lot and the opportunity to mess with it is huge, but since I spend most of the day looking at images you find yourself wondering what set of tricks some photographers use. That being said I still enjoy playing with filters, stops and white balances.
A couple of mine from the show. the jpg compression kind of takes out the highs and lows.

Well done, Rob. Simple and to the point. At the risk of sounding clichè... the less is more theory, for sure, applies to not only Cal Lookers, but to photographing 'em as well.

I thought the photo's were very good, and enjoy seeing the old rusted relics photo'ed. I especially liked the engine bay, and the red micro bus.
