D.B.O. Not a club; a state of mind.

« on: December 29, 2009, 03:38:25 am »

If my wrinkled brain remembers correctly, Dan and Worm started the idea of getting together for the Holidays. It evolved into an open invitation, which turned out to be rather cool.

So Vince & Dan met up with us in nearby Seal Beach.

Destination: Beachfire in Ladera Ranch, which is located in south Orange County off of the 5 freeway.

Soon as we got there, it was imperative that a club sticker be affixed to Vince's '67 Sundial Bus.

Shortly after our arrival, a few of D.K.P.'s members showed up.

The parking lot began to fill up with some nice Cal Look VWs.

Much thanks to Worm for reserving our rock star parking spots, a few steps away from the front door.

We waited for everyone to get settled in before embarking onto lunch and refreshments.

The Beachfire chain of eateries are a great place to score some very good food and also feature an impressive array of biers and other drinks.

DEEKS!

Everyone enjoying their Beachfire experience.

Torben & Christoph (visiting from Hanover, Germany) discuss VWs, EBI, and life with our own Susy Herbert. Note that our waitress, Cat, was awesome and fully on top of her game as she threw a pose for us. Not only do you get great food, tasty biers, and good service... you get food servers with positive and fun personalities.

After dining, it was off to the Ortega Highway (74) and onto a private road which led to some seriously epic ranch homes, complete with barns, stables, and just great country living.

In front of the Fire Dept. where we all hung out for awhile. A fun place to visit with many picturesque views along the way.

We all huddled in for a quick group shot.

Again, thank you to everyone that came out and made this gathering a reality. It was a lot of fun and I'm sure that us DEEKS are already planning another one in the near future. And to the Panzers... you cats, as always, are a class outfit... and we appreciate that you made it out to join us.

Worm, your family is beyond accommodating... thank you very much for the parking, food, and drinks. All were superb. For anyone wanting to sample some seriously epic food: http://www.beachfire.com/

I noticed a lot of cameras were being heartily used, so please... feel free to post up your pics. I'll try to get some of the video of the canyon drive processed soon.

I hope that you can make the next one, Dave.

Mark your car without hubcaps is full of feckless win and epic tripe.  (Did I get that right?)

Thanks! Allow me to translate that for you, Mike:

Mark, your car sans hubcaps has much useless goodness and over the top stomach remains from various animals.

It's waiting on you, John. We're there, now. Are you on your way?

As always Mark, great shots and narrative!

Thanks, Dan... you're much too kind.

....Over the top stomach remains from various animals...........  THAT is Hilarious, I was laughing and my son came over to the computer asking what was up so I read it to him he got a kick as well.

And yes I too really dig your car without the caps bud.  Even if they are just "Rattlecan" rims.

Great outing always such a pleasure to be around the DEEKS Thanks for the fun food and hospitality.

Reinstall clothing? Are you sure that you're not at some spa in Ojai?

Right on, Jason... stoked that you both made it. Those shots that she took are great.

I've got pics of the cruise but I'm still not good at resizing these darn things.  My daughter took these from the back seat of the VERT.  OMG we sure had fun!  Thank goodness for disc brakes... I had three kids in the car!  Here's my best attempt for a Tuesday morning without coffee  Wink

The cruise started out Ortega Hwy and then we came to a private gated road that WORM had access to...  The road was narrow, filled with curves and hills.  We had a few "I think I can, I think I can" moments.

We took a brief stop half way there to regroup and to take in the views.  I grew up in Orange County and I never knew this was here!  Simple So Cal beauty!  And then we were off again, up some more hills.

Then all of a sudden you come into a small development of ranch style homes with barns and stables, horses and other animals.  Like I said, just simple So Cal untouched beauty.  A fun ride up with a caravan of DEEKS.  Thanks WORM!!  Great cruise with some wonderful old friends : )  The day was just perfect.

Mark Kellie says Thanks for the photo compliments. Those were from the cell phone I forgot the camera.

She's quite welcome. Like my photo mentor (old friend of 30 years) always says: It's not the camera that makes or breaks the shot.

Which is very true. Sometimes, the greatest photos are a result of a person being at the right place at the right time. Kellie's photo with the VW hood badge in the foreground fits this theory rather well.

So... Sarge is to blame for the no Panzers cruise, aye?

Why I outta.

 Grin

No worries. Next time, yes?

....."and that's when the cops showed up" Cry Cry Cry

The drive through Santiago Canyon was cool (revving the crowd at Cook's is like swatting a hornet's nest with a two by four Grin).  We got to Jamboree and said good by to Sadler before making a right for the drive through Villa Park.  While waiting to turn left in front of Irvine Park, a nice Chevelle pulled along side of us and we all squirted around the corner together with the Chevy getting pinned in by traffic.  Of course there was lots of revved motors.... to the point of Ben losing his fan belt.  I was leading, Jay, Ben and Dustin were back when Ben finally noticed his alternator light was on.  Dustin stopped to help Ben and Jay and I stopped a hundred yards up the road before swinging  U-Turns to see what was up.  Out of nowhere, two motorcycle cops bust Jay and I for illegal U-Turns!! Shocked Angry Cry  Merryf%$kinchristmas.....
