By the looks of the rear frame section the Coil over is center mounted to a Swing Arm same Idea as a motorcycle

I vote that it's definitely for the wheelie bar apparatus.
Best indicators are in photos 3 & 4.
Pretty cool ... near infinite control over bar travel(compression) rate and dampening.

Very cool car ...

Hi .

Base chassis/idea is from JCL, and the coilover is for the wheelie bar.

Rudy's made it on the newbeettle too.

A new home made gas(methanol)tank






Rudy swap for a hydraulic clutch ( a cable before).
And then put a bypass and linelock solenoid to control the clutch engagment for the rear .

Welde new cromo mounting plate

Looks like the shell went through a typical US restoration to me so I guess it is  Smiley

For the record, the metal work was done by Jim Larson (I believe) before Cooker's got it and finished it. A project such as this, that is started by someone and finished by someone else, as well as how much money a customer has, lead to the "type" of restoration you get. So your statement of "typical US restoration" is a flawed one. I'm sure all the cars in Europe are perfect my friend???

Absolutely not, we have out fair share of rotten cars!

This is a touchy subject, if not taken care of diplomatically this could cause a trans-atlantic war (or even worse an embargo on hop-up parts)  Grin

It does seem so that badly patched cars in Europe are often that, badly patched cars. More often than not they will have been resprayed in a backyard with rattlecans without even having a stab at a decent rub down. usually they are loaded with cheap crap parts. If done bad, that is typically what they ooze. On the other hand, if you see a very nice car, that is faultless in paint, straight, has the right parts in the right places it usually has been restored with attention to replacing all the bad metal. (there are exceptions of course!)

What we percieve of American restorations is that the shinyness of the paint is not an indicator of the quality of the bodywork. The nicest cars, can have patches that have just been filled with newspaper and putty and then expertly sprayed over. It seems that there just is a different focus in the US, a focus on the exterior of the car rather than on the soundness of the metal.

Two caveats here: It is possible that all the worse cars are being shipped to us and all the good cars stay in the US. And, very important, the cars are typically far worse in Europe to start with, we have to do extensive bodywork anyway to even get the car rolling, so why not do it all.

Oh, and before I forget, back on topic, wonderful work on a great car.

another statement that is WAY off base. Ever hear of North East winters? They salt our roads so bad that there isn't a car over 4 years old without rust. Much less something from the 40's, 50's, 60's, etc.

That is so true!!   Even doing here in Texas we have the gulf coast that rust everything out too.

I tend not to comment on here too much.....but for my penny/dimes worth,there are good guys,bad guys,good weather,bad weather, both sides of the ocean,I have shipped ,owned over twenty U.S. cars over the years,some great,some too awful to contemplate,but I still wouldn't generalise,I have seen things here that beggar belief too.Shit is shit,however you stack it,either side of the Atlantic,let's not get in a bitchfest over this,just celebrate some of the awesome stuff coming from both continents from the likes of DKP/OFF/JG54,not to mention some of the crazy French/German/Belgian stuff being produced,thanks to the likes of Buddy Hale/Lanny Hussey/Lenny Copp,the bar gets raised higher every year!A better idea still,let's see who can turn up the biggest crock of crap and settle it that way(I have a few real stinkers in the archives,both british and american Grin)
Any way,back to the great work on this lo-lite a cool car getting cooler.
