Be it that you knew Russ only briefly, or 40 years as I had the honor of doing, he always was the kind of friend who has something good to say. It's never welcome news to hear that cancer has taken another of our long time VW guy's
Rest well now Russ, you are free from your battle.
And to Dave Galassi, who I know was closer to Russ than most know, I express my sorrow for the loss you are feeling,
Steve

For those of you who don't know, The Rosebud is Russ' sister Rosemary, no stranger to VW's, Porsche's or any number of other cool cars.  I've scanned a flyer of her Cal Look Oval when it was stolen (help me with the year Rosemary - 1979?) since I don't have a color picture of it.  Cool ride.
I'll be there for sure, and thanks for the invitation Rosemary.

You are about right with '78 or '79. My poor Bug with all it's trick stuff for slaloming was stolen twice- those BRM wheels Russ helped me get made it quite a target
for thieves.  Eventually I bought a 914 & continued slalom racing & discovered Time Trials. After 9 years in my chosen field, I switched when I got married to a car
guy & took on helping him run his business in Porsche parts.  He & Russ were great car guys together, the rubber piling deep when they got together.  And when
our Dad was alive, he was at the center of it too. We grew up with a love of cars.  Our Mom was no slouch in SCCA in the '50s with my Dad, either.  Cars are a
lifelong pleasure in our family.  It's inherited.  See you soon!

Ouch, that hurt hearing Russ had passed. He and I missed seeing each other at the last Drag Day in Irwindale. I met Russ many years ago at FAST Inc. He would let me borrow items for cars I was working on back then. Russ had a couple of Splits and lived in South Pomona. He had a barber chair in the living room I remember. Then later he started Russ's Recycling. I missed having lunch with Russ when he would come down to Monrovia to his Mom's just never worked out.
We will all take the adventure Russ is on someday. I believe I'll see him again. Till then Mr. Welch.
