Title: Calibre.65 (VWSP65) - street/strip build
Post by: Black_65 on October 15, 2012, 14:18:55 pm
Hi guys,

I'm Clarkey and new to the 'Cal Look Lounge'... I've been told about this forum and wanted to join to get more advice etc on my car.

So a little about it, I bought it on return of my 2nd tour of afghan last year and been spending cash on it sine lol... which doesn't help when your being your 1st house :o.

Well its been playing with my mind for a while and joined VWDRC for 2013 season for a bit fun... So on that note i managed to get 2 sponsors and got loads of prep work to do over the winter ready for the pre-season meet in march.

1st sponsor - Accuspark, i've been testing there vw ignition parts over the last year and very happy with them and you can't beat the price... So im running there performance coil, ht leads, plugs, dizzy with electric ignitoin kit and rev limiter. more to come in the year...
www.accuspark.co.uk

2nd sponsor - GM Bodycraft, Gary is a friend of mine and has some real nice work on old to late cars and check his facebook page on the 55 camper he has just restored...
He will be looking after me on body mods, paint and roll cage and more.
www.gmbodycraft.co.uk

Thats the info on the car sponsors and now the spec, plans etc...

I'm keeping the car street trim with the 'cal look' drag racer theme with the stance, cage etc... I'm hoping to run late 13's into low 13's by the end of 2013 with the mid season plan to use NOS (well 25hp-50hp worth lol) ;D.

Here's some pictures...

Welcome to The Lounge Clarkey! I like the way you have spent your hard earned cash  :)

Please tell us more about your engine plans and nitrous. I have been using nitrous for a couple of years now with great succes and I do believe you should set your goals higher than a low 13.

Best rgs

Hi Guy's,

Been a long time since i updated this but heres a few bits, photos of the pre race work ready for bug jam and my 1st race in VWDRC sportsman class ;D...

So playing around where to mount the NOS bottle. I have 50hp shot of nitrous going into the motor to get me into the low 13's!

All this done by 1.30pm, goto be happy with that! just vw performance engines are a hate/love relationship with al the pumbing lol...

I think i've sorced all my parts to make up the new 8mm fuel lines
(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/IMG_0875_zpsc06157c0.jpg)

New 8mm fuel line fitted in the car today (after my quick call to Rob!) all mounted with p-clips,
 (http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/IMG_0884_zps4b1f9654.jpg)

And the new fuel pump mounted, wired and plumbed in :D
(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/IMG_0883_zpscbd3da95.jpg)

Made these for the dash at GM Bodycraft, really happy how they turnt out!

Is it permitted within MSA regulations to have fuel lines within the passenger compartment of the vehicle now?

Only reason I ask, is that it wasn't when I last raced in 2006 and am curious to know if the regulations have changed since then. :)

Martin.

Hi Nice looking car, but as a side note if you are going to keep the nitrous bottle in side the car you will need a blow off valve and down tube to the out side of the car, otherwise you will be knocked back by the scrutineers. Bernie

Hi Guy's

Well just a little update on the car as it stands so far... building up a date to be ready by Bug Jam for its 1st outting on the track :D.

Well the gearbox parts are still at 'Bears Motorsport' having a few mods done and ordering the parts i need.

Em all the tubing will be ordered next friday, So as soon as the box is back! i'll fit it upto the car again and it will make its way to GM Bodycraft for the cage fit, removable rear end and paint.

Then its time to finsh the build, order any last bits i need... Will be looking to sort the heigh out 'all round' hopefuly with Judges help  and a few other little tweaks.

As it stands theres a delay on my 'Porsche fan shroud' coming from the states so will look to get the car all set up on the rolling road and once its here and i mock up all the lines i'll fit the NITROUS...

See you all soon......... :D

Moved into my new house and the car finaly made its way to GM Bodycraft for the race prep and the last big stage of the build. Might just make it to Bug Jam...

So got my new wheels for the beetle and planning to use an extra 2 wheels fitted with 'simi slicks' just the this year.

Todays work on the car as Gary was working on his mk1 (which is sick!),

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/0196BBFF-EF38-48DE-A6D3-08C2F9CD4ADD-6659-000009F64EE49BB4_zpsd8ba95ad.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/0196BBFF-EF38-48DE-A6D3-08C2F9CD4ADD-6659-000009F64EE49BB4_zpsd8ba95ad.jpg.html)

So i finished cleaning up the Hi-pac's, repaired the inner wings and cut out the rear valance to fit the new one on dzus pins.

Have to admit, really happy with my work as i fitted the removable valance and Gary welded it up.

And last thing is Accusparks new 'programable ignition box with locked out 009 dizzy' for this years racing. Looking forward to getting this motor set up on the dnyo!!!

Well Guy's that's my 8 weeks leave done and now heading back to my back to wales (back most weekends) so should get the bug finsihed for Bug Jam 'I HOPE LOL....'

So car is in 'prep' at GM Bodycraft with the car ready for primer this week and full paint the week after. Had some ups and downs but its really coming togehter and done most job's myself, which i'm really happy with.

On the note of good things, My gearbox parts are finaly at Accspark for Mick to do the rebuild fo i'll have that in 2 weeks.

My is going to GAC Motorsport to see Alan for a full set-up, dyno run and programing my ignition with Accusparks NEW kit. Maybe some other upgrades aswell, But not telling lol...

Last bits is the Nitrous bottle warmer kit, purge kit, saftey blow off valve and extras are on route from the USA and hope to have my long awaited 'porsche fan shroud' BOOM :D

Here's some pictures as that's the good part lol....

Hi Guy's

Car is now 'primed' and waiting to be flaten and painted. Got a few little tricks being done but i'll post that once its finished haha...

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/BE0276FC-5D57-4D4C-AC8A-42C9EB60FBCB-4013-000005E9AA4C8805_zpsd4911fb4.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/BE0276FC-5D57-4D4C-AC8A-42C9EB60FBCB-4013-000005E9AA4C8805_zpsd4911fb4.jpg.html)

Made a plate and welded the bolts to mount the nitrous bottle, made 2 plates to mount the purge valve and fuel pressure switch. Really happy with them and look smart

Updates :D

Well roll cage was painted friday and been told by Gary at GM Bodycraft it will be all painted by next friday and then leave it to harden a few days to flaten and the polish. So should have the car back in 2 weeks...YEA!

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/C153C863-A14F-41A9-86D8-4EB08CB394F3-9331-00000CE92BED92DD_zpsf239ed6e.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/C153C863-A14F-41A9-86D8-4EB08CB394F3-9331-00000CE92BED92DD_zpsf239ed6e.jpg.html)

Accuspark has a little issue with rebuilding my gearbox as they didn't have a replacement 'pinon bearing' so had to order one from germany but will be here next week. So say another 2 weeks for that. My seats will be here next friday :D.

Engine was at GAC in the hands of Alan to have the motor checked, set up and dyno'd and picking that up this friday (14th). Can't wait to see what the motor is making....

Last is i have everything now to start fitting the nitrous to the car once its back from the bodyshop.

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/0EF5AED6-7C2E-421F-A40C-EDBC35485D99-9331-00000CE935B3D371_zps9026ddd5.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/0EF5AED6-7C2E-421F-A40C-EDBC35485D99-9331-00000CE935B3D371_zps9026ddd5.jpg.html)

So also been told i may have another 5 weeks off work, so this will take the stress off and will make the time line for BUG JAM!

Calibre.65 HQ...

Ive still got the gearbox and engine to collect but got the inside painted to clean up the red over spray from the roll cage.

Just to put it out there, this is not a show car but the brief was to look wicked in the stands while at the start line racing.

But it still looks fooking sweet and happy its got a few more years in her lol...

Ok guy's not able to make Bug Jam now because of some issues at work and delays on the motor.

But on the plus side, at least i'll build it right and safe ready for the MOT booked on the 12th Aug.

OK so updates then :D... So made a 'oil pressure earning light' out of a shift light, Battery starp made, wired up the launch control button on the steering wheel, front lights and indicators fitted & wired up, door card cleaned & fitted, roll cage padding fitted, nitrous gauge all plumbed in & dash finished!

Also picked up the gearbox, got to finish the build off but thats the easy part lol.

As for the motor,

Called GAC today for a pick up but a few issues have but it back until Friday. With what it's costing me I want it coming out 100%.

So made 156hp under 6k, this is due to Alan not knowing if it was ran in. Issues are the chokes are way to big, so he's changing them and putting it on the dyno to find more power. He said there dyno under reads on power figures so should be around the 165 mark which I'm very happy with!

Other issue is the oil pressure is way to high! So Alan is changing the oil pump plate and doing a mod to set the pressure as it will blow the oil seal on the filter.

Really can't rate these guys enough at GAC Motorsport

I'll be happy with 160-165 on GAC's dyno as it could be around the 170 mark... plus as long as its more than my friends 2332 at 16o, then im super happy lol  :P

Hey Clarke, good to see your nearly there and soon be out racing with us instead of cleaning up after Danny's leaky pushrod tubes  :D

When the motor is in the bug you could scoot over to DS Performance Rolling Road where Danny recorded 225 and do a power run there. Also don't forget to compare directly it needs to be without your fanbelt connected ! The fanbelt will reduce you power figure in proportion to the power potential of the motor. Danny's 225 was without the conventional fanbelt setup. The JMR build 2332 of mine made 225 bhp at the flywheel without cooling and 214 with conventional fanbelt driving a smaller power pulley on the crank. A larger pulley would definetly sap even more.

Your buddy's 2332 making 160. Was that at the wheels ? the flywheel ? with the fanbelt on ? Lots of variables including motor spec, dyno calibration, heat and humidity on the day of testing etc etc........

Good Progress chap !!

Cheers,

Shane.

Flywheel hp isa pointless comparison as every trans train has a different loss, it's at the wheels that counts. We don't drive down the qtr on the flywheel lol

Hello Mr Sykes. So your Crew Chief for Danny right ?  How come you let him talk about his flywheel horsepower numbers then and not his wheel horsepower numbers ???

There aren't many people out there that quote their wheel horsepower figures in reality are there ? Most like to talk about their flywheel achievements. Makes for good Pub gossip if nothing else !

And I quite agree with Danny to be fair, it's not the horsepower numbers that count but the times you run at the track.

It's Danny's  car not mine he can talk about what he likes  ::) I'm not his keeper I just help the guy out. You can't compare cars like ours one to the other bhp wise as they are all so different. In gearing, weight etc etc . As Danny said it what it does on the track look at the jap guys with the said 1000 hp and only run 11s . Like you said bhp is just about pub talk. Get your car on a hub dyno and find what's at the wheels even that means jack on the track

Cheers Andy

Hey guy's,

Well hope you all and did have a awesome weekend racing at the pod!

Friday 19th -

Finally got my engine back from GAC Motorsport and i have to say i'm a very happy boy :D. Alan did an amazing job on sorting my 2165 out. We came up with a plan and desided to up the C/R to 10.1. Now i know people will say you shoud have or shouldn't have but i left it in there hands and it was needed TBH.

Also with work there, they had to do alot of tidying up and squaring up my dellortos that was refurbed by some one. The butterflys was not stright and sitting right for a start...

Also had a real issue of the motor running really high oil press, So again Alan saved the day by fitting a new oil pump plate to control/set the oil pressure so i don't blow oil filter seals every 5mins .

Ok the out come, So the motor made 161.4hp on GAC's dyno. Alan said his dyno tends to read lower than others... In fact 10-15hp lower. We know this as He built and looks after Danny's Pike car. That engine made 211hp on GAC's dyno and dyno'd it at theres friends place and the same motor, set-up made 225hp.

All in all mine could be around the 170-175hp mark, which im very happy with! and that's with out the gas, belt etc.

He also do great on setting up the timing using Accusparks new programable box, Again which is very basic but gives you the next level up on the 009 dizzy with full mapable ignition.

Here's the print out,
(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/D6F71B74-2153-481E-ABBE-FC96C8B59FE9-936-0000015FE7A41E62_zps3dd66c2c.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/D6F71B74-2153-481E-ABBE-FC96C8B59FE9-936-0000015FE7A41E62_zps3dd66c2c.jpg.html)

Not too bad if i say so myself lol... I've already come up with a plan with Alan for next year on the motor lol.... Head work, fuel injection :D.

OK boring bit's, Gearbox painted and i now have all the bits to finish building back up the box and have ready to fit next weekend. Just need rear drum shoes (if you can advise any good ones?) and also put my own touch to my gene berg shifter.

Hey Clarke,

It's all coming together mate. Good Work !! Look forward to racing with you soon.....

Rear brakes -are you on stock '65 drums ? Not sure if anyone makes an upgrade shoe....you can do the T3 wide 5 conversion and T3 / T4 detectives used to do a kit for this upgrade. The drums are much wider and so are the shoes. If you don't plan on driving on the street then you should be fine anyway.

Cheers

Shane.

Well Guy's

Finally got the gearbox built and fitted on sunday with the help of my friends Luke & Mike. Took 6 hours but was alot of little but long jobs to do.

But it's in now and the lads said there up for helping me after work all this week to get it finished and ready for a MOT next week :D.

So Picture time...YEA

Also got all the brakes sorted and ready to stop!

Now the BEST PART...! So Got the motor cleaned up from the last use on the dyno and started to fit the 'porker fan'. After a hour of triming the shroud, i finally got it fitted on the motor. Thanks to Andy Skyes for the CSP bell crank linkage i got it all sync'd on the 48's :D.

As for the 100mm tall trumpets, this was advised by Alan at GAC to make 161hp as per when it was on the dyno. Looks great but will still need a little fibre glass repair and paint, but Fuck it.... I couldn't wait.....lol...!

Hi guy's,

Abit of a rest on the car as the mrs is off work for a week but it WILL be finished by the end of the weekend, So i can book it in for a MOT and drive it before going back to work.

In the mean time, here's a video of it running :D. We had to prime the oil and then couldn't get it started...! turns out i put the HT leads on the wrong order lol.

Really happy with it and looks so much more power after coming back from GAC Motorsport. I just need to sync the carbs where i fitted the new linkage

Hope you enjoy,

So list of jobs to do before MOT...!

- wire plugs to rear lights
- wire up warning lights
- fix fuel leak on pump
- heli coil x2 wheel studs
- finish throttle cable
- glue passager side capet down
- mount passager seat
- check all electrics in working order
- torque rear hub nuts
- sync carbs

= Ready to drive/race :D

Im aiming to drive at Action to enjoy the car before going away to afghan again in nov, hoping to run into 12's for the night racing but the GAS won't be turn'd on until next year...

So we are nearly there but came across a few issues at the weekend .
At the moment i don't have any working indercators and half my warning lights are not working properly. Not a big issue just will take time to check everything again.

Only real issue is getting the carbs sync'd and linkage set bang on so they open the same...! So might have to take it back to GAC and sort my problem out lol.

Why did i change the linkage and fit the porsche fan to mess up someones good work haha

Well issues are a bit of clutch slippage, need smaller front tyres, tweak the timing a little.

Roll on 2014 VWDRC season

Hi guy's,

Well had a few little issues to tweak on the car before its 1st outing at VW Action next week. I had a little play and checked all the timing and carb's before doing a test run.

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/0325A0EB-876C-428E-9538-81DF4EE85BCB-1038-0000021EB73BA20B_zps54e3f01a.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/0325A0EB-876C-428E-9538-81DF4EE85BCB-1038-0000021EB73BA20B_zps54e3f01a.jpg.html)

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/8D72BFA2-C9F2-41C5-B6B6-1A9D99CBA02B-1038-0000021EBF45717E_zpsba9c4c50.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/8D72BFA2-C9F2-41C5-B6B6-1A9D99CBA02B-1038-0000021EBF45717E_zpsba9c4c50.jpg.html)

Accuspark's programmable ignition seems to be doing ok and the software is so easy...! So i took the car for a little run and seem to have nailed the 'flat spot' out and its pulling hard like a train... Will be good to see how she does on Sat with how it is and running DOT's :D

Also had ago at this thing you guy's call a 'burn out' using the line lock. Good news is the line lock works...! but i'm crap and had no idea how to do a good one lol. Someone told me i should be in 2nd and hold it longer as i had no smoke :(

(click the video image to watch)

Wish me luck guy's and maybe i'll get to come play soon in the VWDRC. Job's before action, well change my steering wheel, get more fuel, make up a tool pack and spares and enjoy myself hoping to make a time for night racing

Looks good dude.   Sounds sweet.
Didn't look like your line lock did a whole lot on your "burnout" as you just pulled away as soon as you dumped the clutch.
Surely you should have sat there with lots of tyre smoke..
2nd gear, brakes on.   Line Lock Activated. (pump the brake a little more if it's not on hard.
Revs up.. .Clutch out..   Smoke.    ;D

Hi guy's,

Been awhile since I've posted anything on here...!

Well what can i say other than its been a mental month for me, with getting the car finished, MOT and had its 1st outing at VW Action 2013.

So I ended up driving to Santapod as i couldn't get a trailer for the bug. My best friend Luke (crew chief) and his 2 brothers did a great job making sure the car was right before going down the track.

1st issue of the day, was the empi wheels with the DOT's fitted didn't fit with my wheel bolts on my centerlines. So road tyres for me at 16.5psi.

So my 1st run was a mid 17, which i was gutted about but it was my 1st time EVER on the track and 1st time EVER in the car since the rebuild...! but as the day went on i got the times down to 15.7 with 2.5 60 fts as i was wheel spinning..

So with all them high numbers really didn't help me or the car as we found we was only getting 3/4 throttle due to the roller wheel. We had a bit of clutch slipping but that was just the cable tweaked. Last issue was the pulley was TOO BIG for the top pulley on the porsche fan set up and was spinning the fan double the speed it should be and was wineing the whole way down the track sounding like a super charger...!

To top things off i was pissed of that the motor pulls hard to 4k then really holds back for a bit and then clears around 5.5k rpm which is causing the car to run slow. I thought it was just me but you really can notice it when your driving the car.

So it went back to Alan at GAC Motorsport, Which BTW is a top bloke, awesome work and is the man to look after me for the up coming years of racing :D. Any way haha, So Alan checked the timing,  the car was advancing right. Took it for a spin and he notice the issue stright away...!

So we not much we could do without putting the car on the dyno, So he gave me a task of un-plugging the Accuspark 'black box' and to fit a 009 dizzy and set the timing.

Took it for a spin, seems to rev up better but still got the issue with it holding back at the rev's. So I called Alan and he's lost as it came of his dyno at 161hp and all i did was fit the porsche fan THATS IT lol... He thinks the timing is retarding around the revs im seeing the issue.

So the plan is to book it in on the rolling road to see what's going on with the motor and try to dial it out. He said it was like driving a 130hp not 160hp beetle.

So i'll stop boring you, that's it for me this year due to being deployed overseas until may.

See ya all soon & he's a few pictures,

Hi Guy's,

Well i think this update is long over due...!

So some good news is that i'm no longer looking to go to afghan in Nov till may, So look's like i may just make a full season next year if work lets me.

Well the car is locked up in the garage ready for this cold winter but means 'Winter Upgrades' :D... So i've walked around the car listing the jobs, that i need to sort and the parts i need to buy.

As it stands, Just ordered new front shocks (as mine died), 4 caster shims as the front beam didn't have any..!. I will also need to book it in with someone to have all the tracking and steering set up.

We have found oil leaks in the rear drum's, I think is due to cheap oil seals. So i won't be doing that again and i need to buy new shoes.

Looking to wire the nitrous system in ready for mid season, Order some AVO coil shocks for the rear.

But not all things are good news, I still have the power issue with the engine holding back around 4-4.5k rpm. So once i've sorted my pedal set at the front i'll get it booked into a rolling road to find out what on earth is going on with the hidden horses...!

Well after my 4th pulley i've got the right size for my set up and has stopped it wineing and cooling is so much better. I went for a 5 1/4" pulley from CB.

All this work to just trim the shroud down a little bit to make a better fit, I think i just be better off buying one that does lol. Winter upgrades, when you wished you didn't start the job lol....

No more sandbox :)

Do you need 2 castershims per side?

You need a good rake for that :)

Em i asked Alan at GAC Motorsport who looks after my engine and he builds f-v cars and said to run 2 caster shims each side.

Thanks guy's fo rall the kind words. Not bad for a soldier :P...

As for the 2 caster shims on both side and new shocks really feels good when driving, But can't wait to see how it handles which i get GAC to set up all the alinement etc.

Real shame i only got 1 day on the track this year due to the build and work but, boy i can't wait till next year :D

Hi Guy's,

Got a little update for you :D.

So order a replacement 'porsche fan shroud' which i'll be taking the motor out the car next weekend to do a few bits and mock up the shroud before paint. Fingers crossed this one fits the stroker motor haha.

So like i said, motors coming out... Got an bad oil leak which i can't pin point where it is, but i want to re-seal and gasket the extra sump making sure the rover covers, plate for the oil temp sender and push rod tubes are all sealed 100%.

While the motor is out im making new linkage rods with abit more length to help sync the linkage better as one is not opening full on on WOT. On that note, i'm doing a little mod to the bell crank linkage (i'll post a pic) that should help work better with the cable so that its more responsive on the throttle pedal and makes sure im getting 100% throttle before booking into 'rolling road'.

few other job's which i'll post up over the next few weeks, But i want to mainly show you the drawing of the car i had done by a guy called Tom Pye. I can't belive how it turn't out. The detail in the engine, inside the car and the wrighting on the car :D

I'll keep you all updated over the next few weeks

Hi Guy's,

A well needed update on this tread lol... sorry about that .

So as i last posted the motor had a bad oil leak which was making a right old mess!. So it turned out to be leaking on the top of no.3 cylinder as seen here,

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/9C7C26C0-E8D0-4464-B4B9-0A46A8B7F4C1_zpsahd3gwwy.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/9C7C26C0-E8D0-4464-B4B9-0A46A8B7F4C1_zpsahd3gwwy.jpg.html)

So with the find, we waited to get some help and learn how from Andy S, we took the head off only to find it wasn't sealed all the way round the case. So we fixed that lol...

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/EFA285D5-EAFA-4139-8E3E-7462655677D6_zpsqzyqcj6r.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/EFA285D5-EAFA-4139-8E3E-7462655677D6_zpsqzyqcj6r.jpg.html)

While the motor was out we found the clutch was dead and that was only 600 mile use and 6 runs and the strip! So we have sand blasted the flywheel after i had it checked it was 100% flat. And upgraded to a KEP stage 2 pressure plate and new Dalkin disc.

Before :

After :
(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/11FF88C7-2A80-440F-AF95-E24B866C3DDB_zpslymxjeoi.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/11FF88C7-2A80-440F-AF95-E24B866C3DDB_zpslymxjeoi.jpg.html)

I also got round to sorting the front out with fitting 2 caster shims in the beam and fitted new shocks. I was worried about using a 'solid rear mount' on the gearbox coming lose so i changed it ouver for a new set up,

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/13EF9E9C-65EE-4C28-A203-EF94343B7945_zpswkfvcox7.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/13EF9E9C-65EE-4C28-A203-EF94343B7945_zpswkfvcox7.jpg.html)

So with the new gearbox mount fitted, i found that the frame horn support bars didn't line up to bolt together!, So i went back to the solid mount.

I also sold my 'gene berg shifter' and treated myself to a custom 'Bug-Tech' race shifter. Now if you dont have one then get one. Its a real nice bit of kit, and the throw is amazing :D. here it is...

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/E2F66C63-C6D6-426C-B9A6-BD6F54E4089C_zps4hzj1ixt.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/E2F66C63-C6D6-426C-B9A6-BD6F54E4089C_zps4hzj1ixt.jpg.html)

If you didn't know we had a horrible leak on both rear drum seals and killed my new fitted shoes lol. So i had them all cleaned and fitted new seals etc. And fingers crossed it don't happen AGAIN...!.

Made a right old mess :
(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/C8C11DD6-38C7-4499-A687-4BD622C67802_zpsrydeh12u.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/C8C11DD6-38C7-4499-A687-4BD622C67802_zpsrydeh12u.jpg.html)

Good new's everyone...!

Alan at GAC Motorsport had my engine back for a full check over and dyno to see why i was having all them issues i spoke about on the other posts.

Turn's out i haad some crap in the fuel bowl in one of the carb's, causing it to plug up the fuel circuit around the RPM range i was having the holding back on power.

It was making the motor only run on 3 cylinders...!

So with that sorted and a few tweaks the motor made more torque and power than the last set up on the dyno as seen below, I can say i'm very happy and top top work from GAC Motorsport

Not bad numbers for a 2165cc :D
(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/B3D9A344-880D-47E1-BA7E-974DCAD7A356_zpslyfujt7y.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/B3D9A344-880D-47E1-BA7E-974DCAD7A356_zpslyfujt7y.jpg.html)

Also had Alan fit and mod a hex type linkage as my CSP bell crank one was fucking up the carbs on idle when the heads got warm and making one side open more lol. And Gary at GM Bodycraft made the throttle cable part to work the hex type as seen here,

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/3C9252F4-CBB4-4283-A132-114EC804AFDB_zpsydh1fryw.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/3C9252F4-CBB4-4283-A132-114EC804AFDB_zpsydh1fryw.jpg.html)

More updates... lol (been a long winter).

Managed sorce a replacement fan shroud to fit the wider vw motor and its all trimed and at GM Bodycraft for paint. It going the same red as the roll cage to keep the theme with the car colours.

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/D1FE6E7E-1AF0-4212-8650-61469CE1F57D_zpssylbj8go.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/D1FE6E7E-1AF0-4212-8650-61469CE1F57D_zpssylbj8go.jpg.html)

I also made the choice to go 'bigger' on the oil breather stuff, as it might help the motor a little and just a safety thing after the case was leaking lol. So now all oil hoses and joins are 19mm I.D and Gary at GM Bodycraft made me a new alloy breather tube with 25mm I.D filters,

(http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/1776_VW_BEAST/42DAB338-EB4E-41E2-BC81-9BC58C57EF48_zpsftx9i8lh.jpg) (http://s25.photobucket.com/user/1776_VW_BEAST/media/42DAB338-EB4E-41E2-BC81-9BC58C57EF48_zpsftx9i8lh.jpg.html)

Then i was bored one night driving home from wales and kept thinking how cool would it be to get some parts powder coated BLACK for the engine.... So i did and a place in MK was amazing to deal with. Fast & cheap and a great job. BPF paint finishers in MK.

Nearly there lol...

So motor all bck together with the winter work done, all running 100% right and now getting 100% full throttle i think its going to do alot better on the track now :D.

Looking smart i think,

Now i had some help from Judgie to tweak the linkge and balance the carbs and told me to go for a drive. Put my foot down and shit myself lol.
1st time ive goto drive the cr running full power, no issues and it fucking flys and hooked up really well with the stage 2 pressure plate fitted. its going to be a good year of racing and hoping to get into mid 12's now :D

Also had a new team logo drawn up to better suit the name and i wasn't happy with the old one lol.
