You guys up there that do not know one another should meet up and plan some drives. Really, the Bay Area has some of the best driving roads and scenery I have driven. I think New England alone only ranks close. You guys should put together some drives up through La Honda and Woddside out to San Gregorio or down to Santa Cruz, via Hwy 35 and 9. The area through Marin County, near Fairfax, Bolina, up and over Mt Tam, and out to Point Reyes Station.... some of the best scenery and driving around anywhere. Even a short blast up the backside of the Oakland Hills via Redwood Rd... up into Berkeley, another good one.
Just an hour away is the legendary Hwy 25 too, out of Hollister down into San Ardo or east into Coalinga.

What are you waiting for?

you can start in the bay area and go down 35 to hwy 9 on into Santa Cruz then up the coast to HMB and on to marin and sonoma and Napa then up 101 or the coast to back over to calistoga and on to clear lake then hwy 20 over to marysville and to grass valley down 49 to auburn and the river, cool (town) georgetown, then on to placerville then up sonora and back over to lake tahoe and around the lake.......I can go on but .......there are many great back roads to go for a run.
Jim when you moving out of the simi valley (couldn't see it with all that smoke) to northern ca. your fan club misses you Grin

Not for the faint of heart.... but..

If any of you Northern calif guys get the time and the cajones, drive way up hwy 101, way up near Fortuna, and head east on Hwy 36, all the way over to Interstate 5. Not suggested for stock motors... there are some nice elevation changes. But for those with some hp, you won't regret the trip. It is best described as "intense."
I think it's over 100 miles from 101 on the west to I-5 on the east end (near Red Bluff). Kyle Madden and I took my WRX out there many years back and scrubbed some tires off. It's a popular ride for the knee-dragging motorcycle guys, if that tells you anything. even a sedate drive thru there is cool, just for the scenery. Too bad I live so far away from one of the best drives in all of California now... Roll Eyes

many many many... dude you'd be in Dirt Heaven. Look up Mad River, Ruth Lake, Bridgeville, Yolla Bolly widlerness. There are dirt roads clear from Clearlake thru Pilsbury Lake area, then up to Covelo, then up past Hammerhorn Lake and into Blocksburg, Zenia, Yolla Bolly... been up thru there in my buddy's old Mazda truck, spent a 3 day weekend up there, on dirt and gravel only. Lots of "greenery."
 Cool
LET'S GO! you got room for me?
