Title: stripping the chrome on a pair of sprints+ a few more q's
Post by: beetletom on November 03, 2008, 15:06:42 pm
hi i'm about to buy a set of wide 5 sprints, but the front 4.5's are chrome, how are they stripped? if they can't be, whats the best way of painting them? all 4 are in etch primer.

and what type of paint were they painted in?
matt silver (not too glossy?) and gloss black centres?

would a pair of 135/70's be ok on the 4.5's?
and 205/70's on the 5.5's?

thanks!

Take to any chrome plater and they can reverse the plateing process

Just make them all chrome! :)
I personally would use 145's... they fit better on a 4.5" rim.

A chrome shop shouldn't charge very much to take the chrome off. It takes seconds. All they do is put it in the vat and reverse the polarity. I had a set of Sprintstars stripped awhile back, they did it while I waited and charged me about 5 bucks a wheel.

Mr. Rayburn speaks the truth. I just dropped off a few chrome body trim pieces at my local chrome plate shop to be acid washed. And no... there will be no re-plating.

Personally, I've never been a fan of EMPI Sprintstar wheels then or now. But When Rayburn made his silver, I thought they looked really good. Good luck with your wheels, Tom.
