As per title, i can't get the right sand seal pulley so will have to have one machined down. Just need to know what size it needs to be machined to, the seal has aprox 47mm I.D but need an exact size for the proper fit. Was thinking of an equalizer pulley, but if i go Ally would a steel sleeve be better? Many thanks

There are a few different sizes of sand seal pulley hubs.
I have used 1.875", 47mm and 1.75".(and probably others)
1.75" is very thin, and bergs say you can use 1.770 on this seal,(from memory).

Seal surface tollerances can generally bear with as much as .020" from the nominal,
but I would use -0.000 to + ,020" as a tolerance.

If your seal measures about 47 it is probably for a 1.875 shaft,
but the part number and/or size markings SHOULD be on the seal
and be the final word on what size you need to have..

Hi, thanks for that all though a little confused  - it is a non machined case version like Bugpack & Scat they seem to say 1.845"in there info. I know it's close but just want to get it right if i'm machining an expensive pulley! Huh

I did a quick search and found that most of the press in kits
are between 45 and 46mm.
CB was 1.812"(46mm).

You will need to identify which brand/seal size you have before machining your pulley.

The biggest seal size I found anywhere was for a 1.875 diameter,
but I think the VW pulley will still have threads showing at that diameter.
