WHAT'S UP WID DA BOOM BOOM???

« Reply #60 on: September 02, 2012, 15:46:05 pm »

I ruined the "traditional" part of my dual QP's by welding on an O2 bung.   Grin

Just put a spark plug in the bung when you're done reading mixtures and tell people it's part of a flamethrower kit. Any butterhead rockabilly will tell you that flamethrowers and girls covered with sideshow tattoos are traditional.

That's an option. I'm trying to think of off the wall stuff I can do to really confuse the masses. I wonder if I can get a small enough flapper (like on a tractor trailer stack). Or maybe a whistle?

Diagnosed a floppy clutch pedal last night, was hoping it was a bad cable, but cable is fine.  Looks like engine is coming out for TO bearing/clutch fork diagnosis.  Bummer!

Torqued my heads up. This time I set my torque wrench properly and so I didn't break any studs. Just have to slot the engine back in over the weekend and i'm off and running again. Yay!

I have some spare time to work tonight on my 1600 rebuild.

I messed one of the threaded hole head stud while tapping it to M12. I have to use an M14 insert to save it.

I drill it, gradually using larger drills. 11mm, 11.5mm and 12mm.

I used a drill press to be sure I was drilling it square. It's a cheapo drill press, but it gets the job done.

I didn't have T handle tap holder larger than M12. I bought a bigger one, and it's just ridiculously big  Cheesy Look like something to work on steam machine. Grin

I have to remove one of the handle to tap it.

After doing the 3-pass threading, I cleaned all the holes and inserts with brake cleaner, blow them and put everything together with red loctite.

Not on any particular car, but the engine area in my unit is nearly finished! Rather than filling the space left by my '51 with more stuff, we've built a solid bench, blocked off some windows, lined the walls, added a strip light overhead and last night got the parts washer and engine stand ready to put in place. Just need to paint the floor and trim the worktop down.

So I should have space ready by the weekend to strip down a 1600 motor as a stopgap before the Sweep The Floor special. This thing always ran really strong, but really hot too, so I want to find out exactly why. Maybe cam timing? Whatever, it'll have a little more head work, and with the Scat C35 cam and 40 DRLAs it should be entertaining enough!
