I'm selling my '67 to prove you wrong, Worm. Never under estimate the power of a Super Beetle. If you turn your back on them, they'll bite your FACE off. You don't even know. What about '73-'77 Standard Beetles? Remember Frenchy's orange one with the EMPI 8 spokes? GREAT looking car. Wish that I had a picture of it.

Oh it will happen, my friend. But remember, we are here twenty six years later. In another twenty six years, your dentures will fall out from laughing every time a Cal-Look Super Beetle passes you on the street!

HAHA!! No worries, Worm, ol' friend... we're DEEKS and DEEKS heckle other DEEKS. If we didn't... well, you know the code.

Okay, Fabian... please fire up a pic or two of Frenchy's orange '74 Standard. That was one sweet lookin' car. Better yet... Frenchy? Are you reading this?

 Grin

When I rode my bike or Puch moped to work, I'd pass that car sitting in front of Les Purnell's German Car Repair and marvel at it. A year later, I started building my first Cal Looker because of that car's color (besides being my favorite color). Same time, I got a job there after Frenchy left to go work on new cars.

Dan, Mark, you guy's are right, in a few years, maybe even sooner, will see Supers on the street all decked out with BIG motors and may be even faster than some of the fast street cars nowa day's. You DEEKS are cazy, but that's what's having fun is all about. Having fun with old and new friends.  Cheesy

Thanks, Fabian... wow, you really dug back for those. Because the license plates pre-date the custom ones that he had later. YHCNERF... always that was pure genius of a plate idea.

This is one of my favourite late lookers. It belongs to my friend Arto from Finland and boy does he run it hard! It is just so fresh the way it looks and the way it stands. Street driven, NA screamer, pump gasolin, fan belt on and no cutting. One excellent late looker;

mark frenchy wrote this about the car : "In 1978 I found this '74 Beetle Standard through Mike Bergin in Danville, California. He called me and said he was selling the car. It
had a 1641 engine and original Empi 8 spokes. I flew to Oakland, where Dan picked me up and drove me to his home in Danville. I
bought it for $3000 and drove it home to Yorba Linda. Shortly after that, I decided it was time for a longer road trip and I decided to go
visit my sister in Tennessee. While there, the rear fender was damaged. After returning home I took it to Al Martinez.  Photos 4-6
shows it after Al repaired it. You can see the disc brakes I installed in photo 7.

Right on, Fabian... thanks. Hard to believe that the car was only 4 years young when Frenchy decided to buy and further Cal Look it, yes? Now, we're dealing with cars at least ten times that age.

Ben, VERY cool pic.

Let me see if I remember correctly, he did those times back in 2004/2005;

- 2276ccm
- Heavily modified Superflo heads
- 48 IDA`s
- Mahle cylinders
- Web 251 or Fk91
- T1 gearbox
- 009

Nothing hocus pocus really, just one of those engines that worked really well. Arto, if you read this please correct me if I`wrong.

Nicolas, Frenchy's orange car was a '74 Standard... not a Super. Of course, the U.S. models made after '73 look very close to each other.
