Does anyone have experience with Aluminum PushRods. Either JPM Rods or Torsten Piper.
I'm building a 2366ccm type 4, and would like to reduce valve train noise to a minimum.
I have a set from Torsten Piper on hand.
But how does it work with heat expansion. Are they super sensitive? Or will they work as steel rods...

I use JPM alu pushrods on all my engines and would never again use anything else.

Setting the Clearance for AL pushrods is an art -- but it is mainly finding out how your engine and pushrods react with each other....

The starting point is zero lash, and go from there.... Some engines require zero plus tightening a extra 1/4 turn, some require loosening a 1/4 turn. My 2989 requires zero plus a 1/2 turn. One of the Promod Engines I know of is at zero plus 1 1/2 turns -- These are all on type 1 engines, your type 4 might be different.

How does it start with the valves open?

I have no problems -- It might be more of a taking all the 'slack' out of the components in my case than actually opening the valves -- -- guess you could also consider it a temperature controlled mechanic compression release too -- I know there is so issue in my case and the promod engine run's 7's with their 1 1/2 turns

I do run the dual tapered 3/8" pushrods -- -- and the promod runs 1/2" pushrods

Loose 0 lash when cold, never had a issue. These pushrods are rather massive and I do believe that the engine will out-grow them when it warms up. This is also measurable if you remove the valve cover on a hot engine.

They HD alus are lighter and they have less noise compared to chromoly.
