Basically you would cut off the tubes going to the torsion housing on your Arms and make a new mount of a couple of new added tubes nearer the main cage hoop

Hers a 4 link set up that may give you a idea of what i am talking about

Unfortunately I am far from an expert,so proberly going to get told I am wrong, but the changes in geometry of a short arm are huge compared to a long arm while moving through its arc,and when the power is applied a longer bar puts the power further forward in the car which I am led to bleieve will make the car react better, less prone to wheeling and less violent, there is alot more to it than that but I am still learning Smiley

Maybe sit down with pen and paper and decide exactly what you want to achieve with it now,and then see what spec the rest of it needs to be to do that and more, always leave some extra in there because we always want to go faster later on than we think now Wink

Some things to think of
Will the drivetrain take the abuse and power?
have I got enough tyre and are the wheels strong enough?
are the gear ratios suitable for what i am trying to do and match the engine rpm?
is the fuel system enough to supply what i need and 25% more for later?
have I got enough ignition to fire the fuel needed?
does the turbo move the air I need at the right rpm?
is the intercooler able to cool  the intake temps it will see?

Will it stop when I finally do a full pass Shocked Grin

Yes you are correct exactly what I need to do when I started I was planning 300 since then you can see what's happened

Will the drivetrain take the abuse and power? Gearbox yes cvs 930s not sure
have I got enough tyre and are the wheels strong enough? Unknown to me split 8" compromotive Fuchs
are the gear ratios suitable for what i am trying to do and match the engine rpm? Geared to 155 @ 7000
is the fuel system enough to supply what i need and 25% more for later? It will be 2000hp pump so 1000 on meth
have I got enough ignition to fire the fuel needed? Coil per cylinder so I hope so ?
does the turbo move the air I need at the right rpm? It looks ok to me twin scroll Borg Warner bullseye 366
is the intercooler able to cool  the intake temps it will see? That im sure of custom one with the same core as a 1200 bhp v12 Lamborghini
Turbo conversion but mine you can fill directly with ice

Will it stop when I finally do a full pass Shocked Grin I think so Stroud chute and gears brakes all round but who knows

I need to spend the day planning the final rear suspension and probably loads more questions

Cheers andy

so this bit is dannys fault for asking me to get his NOS filled up at websters, the rear suspension is now being made there i think this guy knows exactly what hes doing Smiley

http://www.webster-race-engineering.co.uk/ and hes ten minutes from my front door

http://performancetrends.com/download.htm

when you download the suspension analyser you can see how a slight change shifts things on a car

So apart from doing a lot of talking and asking questions on suspension to Webster and Hauser not much has happend I do at least have a much better understanding of what I need and what will work in a beetle from these guys. Other news the turbos has gone bigger for the new engine as the Borg Warner 366 was going to be too small so Mr Keene has sold me this  Grin

So Stupid idea 10.71

I can't get my car into webster or hauser until january Jeff Hauser spent a fair bit of time with me explaining four link and how it all works but not on a beetle like it does on a live axle lol, so made sense to stay IRS. So that started me thinking again

This is the final plan I promise lol

996 rear end so I can use 996 drive shaft (tiptronnic) as they are shorter and the inner should fit the 930 output it looks a bit wide in the picture but the box has to come higher and from what I've measured today so fit fine

Basically I'm going to make a frame and motor plates for the transmission and mount the IRS to that luckily there are a lot of tuning parts for the rear of the 996 so I can make the whole rear end adjustable

Cheers andy

May I ask how much it weight compared to a "ordinary" IRS? I think you should focus on weight and balance in a car with the kind of HP that you plan on having. Borrow corner scales and move things around until you`re happy.

I haven't got any scales here but Im guessing about 10kg-12kg and I will be using the strange brakes i have. So should be very close to standard irs with drum/disc brakes a would guess and yes im going to get the corner weights done and get the car set up suspension wise before it even sees a track. I will be putting the battery and dry sump up front and the fuel tank of course.  And the turbo is going over the transmission so i think that may help as the 930 box is very heavy compared to a vw box

I still have no idea hows its going to turn out but one has to try lol

so a little bit done today

i think the exhaust header may be an issue so i will need to take that into account. The bell housing of the transmission will be on a motor plate but the rear im not sure i think i may use the standard mount?

fingers crossed a bit more tmw
