This may be a stupid question Andy, but honestly, what is/was so wrong with the VW torsion beam? I understand why you did the double wishbone solution at the rear, but I am just not getting why you are trying to graft both ends of a Boxster to your car......

Sorry if that sounds negative- it is not meant that way- but it looks like an awful lot of trouble, with a number of elements that require some science to work well together, especially with the potential of your running gear combo.

You could just build a tube car with a Lamb/Strange strut front end  Wink

Anyway I had an interesting time at santapod this weekend not much VW racing but seeing what other guys do is very interesting the front wheel drive guys are getting very quick, and people  used to say front wheels drive is no good for drag racing looks good to me Smiley

So bit of a major set back I've been working out my ratios for my 930 box and its pants yes I could get 230mph at 8k but over about 3 miles as I will be off boost on most of he 1/4  so looks like I need to rethink this bit  Cry

9500   77.4   134.0   195.7   268.0

So basically if I change at 8k my rpm will drop by nearly a 1/2, now I'm guessing but I would think I would want it to drop by a about 1/4 to keep boost. I'm going to loom a bit more into this as there were other ratios out there for 930s so I better get looking as year the car will be fast but over about 3 miles lol.

But I'm still on it

So a few questions never fitted a flip front so do I cut here ?

And do I seam weld this bit ?

So a bit of weight loss

You're close with the flip front cutting, but in danger of going too far! On photo one the vertical line is in about the right place but too long. Look at where the wing bolt line is cut off - you want to come horizontally back from there. On what is left of the quarter panel on my old car, there had been a 20mm wide strip welded on at 90deg to the quarter, almost like a return lip. Also, the area where the heater pipe comes up the door post had been capped off with what looked like a piece of old wing to get the curve right!! I might have some pictures on my laptop, I'll look later.

You've cut more out of the doors than I would have.  I left the area for the door handle, with the diagonal piece running across the door and a vertical above the handle aperture. Not much more weight than yours but it allowed me to run the stock handles in the stock position.

Thanks Neil that helps a lot pics would be great Smiley I like the idea of the return lip it would finish it off , so I'm on back on with the electrics that is a project in its self lol

It's going to take a lot of work to get this all to work together but this is one thing i do know about haha, a lot of it I can get a lot it it to work down the CanBus , I'm going to make about 4 looms to gather all the information into the data logger so fingers crossed there will no guessing what the car it doing

I'm going to be logging

Speed
Suspension height
Egt on each cylinder
AFR on each cylinder
Rpm
Oil presure
Fuel presure
Oil temp
Air temp before and after charge cooler
Boost
G force
GPS
Wheel spin
Gear changes

And I will be able to link any of it into the camera system and view what ever happens at any time of the run

Hi Peach

It's a Dash II by race technology as it the data logger and camera system it has sensor inputs but also gets data from the DTA CanBus

I've got this 36 way 10 amp connector for the engine harness

Also started on the thankless  task of seam welding the joins on the from end

Then I will have to seam seal the inside as I've had to scrap out the original sealant to weld up

or Damper travel?

Andy, it looks like all my photos have gone off my laptop so I've got nothing to show you I'm afraid! Hopefully what I wrote above makes sense though! If you want to mark it out and then post pic before you cut, go for it and I'll do my best to show you what to do!
