Hi Fabian,

I thought the same before the show. Le Bug Show without Spa? But I have to admit that the new location has also a cool atmosphere with the hangar and the 1/4 mile. The campground is fantastic, because it's all grass and the water can drain off, so it's not getting to muddy. The roads up to the location are really good, organisation is good - what more can you ask for?

Next year there will be more DFL members then just me, I promise you  :)
Cheers,

Georg

I liked the new location much more than the former one for reasons already mentioned.
Did I say that the 1/4 drag location was VERY good? A lot more room before the starting line and the possibility to drive back again after your run!!!!!!!! Outstanding!

Pity about some rain late saterday morning, but I managed one good run (the first one) and did a 11.997 which is amazing for me and a PB by over a hole second!
I do hope the time recording will be better next year with 0-60ft times, 1/8 mile times and speeds as now I only got an accurate (hope so at least) ET, while the end speeds seemed about 15-20 km/h off (too low).

Big thanks to Udo who helped me with my broken shifter and lended me his tools!

Fabs, I think you're the only one that not liked it, but luckily I also read it was only because of the good memories of the old location ;) Your pictures show it had great cars and I think you did enjoy it by the looks of it. I will definately go there next year!

Greets,
Walter

i heard by a member of the belgian vw club , may be it's the last  bug show , spa is too expensive now , and here , there isn't enought car like spa doing

georg it was my first impression , today i watch the new location  for me , i will put the show and shine at the big place behind the drag race , the campsite at the swap meet location , and the swap meet at the campsite location , to  return everything the same place  ;)

for me the atmosphere of the military base look like a little bitburg
 new pictures will come tonight

I talked to Jean-Marie and he said they need 1000 cars to break even - they had 900 by saturday around noon time. Saturday evening I heard they had already 1200 cars, so I guess there will be a Bug Show next year.

I really hope there is a Bug Show next year! I could not go this year as money was tight. But I also think that attendance would have been down as all the changes this year and the uncertainty. Not forgetting SCC was only last weekend so many people would have spent their money going to that. And EBI wasn't around when the last Bug Show at spa was on, so in a way there is more competition, But if the show gets a location and date set early in 2009 then I think the attendance will be up.
I know that if it stays at Brustem its will be good, I know the guys that went over for the King of Europe and prepped the track they said it was a good location!
Count me in for Bug Show 2009!

Rob.

My contact told me, this was probably the last Belgium Bug Show.
Reasen why it wasn't at Spa this year, next to financial reasons, was because there was only 1 weekend available, the week before de Belgium GP.

The Brustem 'Playground' costs even more than Spa they told me... ???

i have to agree with fabian there is something special about the atmosphere in Spa and i missed that also
maybe we expect to much

Title: Re: le bug show
Post by: Udo on August 24, 2008, 20:30:15 pm
I think this was the better location because of the track , which was not so good as i expected but a 1/4 mile and all was more compact , it was not far to walk the whole place. Most of the racers spent the night on the campside so there was a lot of space left in the very large pit area . I had ignition problems and could  not find the reason for this  >:( . It looks like they will do it at spa next year , we will see .

I was only in Brustem saturday, and the rain spoiled part off the day, but I managed to do 5 passes on the strip in the late afternoon.
Shame there were only about 35 racers, so I had to drive alone 2 times.
The track was not bad but for me the braking distance behind the 400m was a lot too short.  Had to go on the brakes really hard right after the finish.
Hope they do something about it if it returns in the same location.

Jelle

I was a little bit disappointed of the show  :-\ . But for me it is not The Show itself but the quality of the cars. More and more rat looker,  primered car and other ground scrapper.  :P Not my cup of tea.
I've spot this car I found nice, just the rear that is too much lowered.  :D

the red one is an mach1

Yes that's the Mach1 of my friend Pasco Close. They sell VW since 1948  :o :o

It is equivalent to The GTV . Only 180 where modify by Dietereen, the Belgian VW's importer during 64 and 65.

the floorpan number is a real one  , but the rest is replica

off topic : i know 2 real one in liege  ;D photo on my computer , some of you have seen the red one last year at the bug in , and in june i went with the owner to pick up the other one , a green this time , complet with the paper from  the factory
he is the 3th or the 4th new owner

I spent a very wet and dissapointing weekend at the show..

From a social point of view it was great to meet some more 'Loungers' over the weekend, but on the selling/buying side it was a massive dissapointment.

I've been attending VW Shows for more than 25 years and this was the Worst weekend of selling I've ever had. So not good!!

I have nice/good/desirable VW items for sale and I had tyo almost 'Give' things away, just to 'Break Even' for the weekend.

I spoke to lots of other Traders who told pretty much the same story. I think that from what people said about this New location, it was not favourable compared to Spa and I'm not sure all of them will be back for next year, if there is another show?

The oranizers were very nice & friendly, but will need to 'listen' carefuly to feed back in order to make things even better for next time.

It's always hard to move an event from one location to another, but I'd certainly like to see the show get 'Better' for next year.

Perhaps it was the weather that really spoiled the show atmosphere, I don't  know for sure?

One aspect that certainly needs attentiom is the 'Food/catering'.... It was terrible and VERY Expensive. I had a plate of Eggs & Bacon for 3 Tickets ( Nearly 6 Euros!!) When I asked for a plastic knife/fork the boy said it's now 4 Tickets??????????????

I'm now on my way to VW Action in England, but my week just got even Worse when I found out I just lost 200 Euros that I sent to a French seller for some Empi parts That I will not recieve........

Altogether not a good weekend for me.
