Title: Pertronix or CB distributor
Post by: Bendik on October 13, 2010, 19:34:32 pm
As the title says. I am looking to buy a new distributor and want a stand alone type for use with a "normal" coil. Which one should I buy, the CB or the Pertronix one? What is the difference between the two?

I have used both and the CB unit is way nicer, the advance curve setup on the Pertronix is really cheezy.

I have had several pertronix Modules in 009's as well as Pertronix Dizzy's, none of which have failed on me personally. However I was referring more to the quiality of the build of the Distributor itself.
The way the Pertronix limits the advance curve is really a lousy design compared to the CB. ( as far as the Electronics go they are probably on par.)

CB Dizzy is also a much better price.

I have had used all 3, MSD, CB and Pertronix. CB's is a real nice distributor, tunes just like the MSD, but with bearings and 100% billet. And yes, Pertronix is a little cheesy as far adjusting the advance with those little angle plates. But CB gets my vote next to MSD. Stand alone or not. Oh ya, caps and rotor's are the same on all three.

How about the new digital dist. from CB:  http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1855

It looks very promising with fully adjustable RPM and load boundaries, rev limit and Two-Step rev limit.
Itīs all in one standalone unit, and looks like itīs fairly easy to install and tune.

I think itīs very reasonable priced. Looks like a lot of value for money.

Bump :). I'm in the market for a new ignition setup. CB Magnaspark 2 with ignition module or with 6 AL box or this new Magnaspark 2 Digital setup. Any experiences?
