something strange happend two days ago. i was able to open and close the door just fine and now it is stuck. i shut the door and am not able to open it anymore.
so how can i open it. it won't give anything and the access to the mechanism is really hard and nothing seems to give there as well. i have thought off taking off the hinges, but the seem to be seized solid as well and i don't have a special tool to get them out.

this is not a mindgame, this is real.  :-[

take off the door card, and try and have a play around (ooh er) with the catch? from inside??

Are you stuck inside the car?  Try rolling down a window and climb out.

screwdriver from the inside to push open the catch!

anyway.

things haven't improved. i have been able to take out the screws that hold the door, but it didn't come out. it's still stuck on the doorstop... so i may follow Jims idea or Glenns, but if someone, anyone, has a idea that still saves the door/car that would be nice.

Im a bit confused here Nicolas , how on earth did you get the screws out that hold the door in place with it closed ????
Do you mean the hinge pin's ? is this on your type 3 ? think we need some pix here !  ;)

I have the same issue for a long time (maybe to long...)

The drivers door won`t open when you don`t do a trick:

Open the other door and get inside then rattle at the door opener AND the Pin that shows you if it is locked at the same time.
That opens my door now about 5 or lmore years.Some day I will fix it´for sure...  ;)

If this doesn`t help get out the sidewindow with it`s frame.The back frame covers the closing mechanism

probably means the screws that hold on a type 3 door card!
or he had a set of screw drivers that can go around corners!  ;D

I had this same issue with my drivers door on my 67 fastback. I was able to get the door to open with a long screwdriver form the inside. The bitch was getting around the window channel guide with all the little sheet metal bits spot welded to it. I think I removed it first. I took out the latch mechanism and compared it to a good 67 Type-1 mechanism I had (they're the same as T3 for 67). Turned out I was missing a spring and a small piece of the mechanism was broke which caused that piece to rotate down and jam the whole thing. Oh and that window channel guide.... I ground the spot welds to remove all the excess sheet metal "safety" pieces. It makes it much easier to reinstall, IMO.

wel i have, kinda sorta...

i took off the front wing and made little slots in the back off the screws holding the door and then i screwed them out. so that worked great, but now the door is still stuck on the catch and the doorstop...

but i am still looking at the screwdriver option there, but i am not sure what to do with it. i think it slips inside the door and pushes the latch from the inside, but i could be wrong.

If I was at home, I would take a picture of a latch mechanism for you. Maybe someone can post a pic and point out where / what you need to do to open it.

Found this picture over on the Samba. Its a 67 latch. Wait, is this issue with your 67 Square, or 66 Fasty? I'm pretty sure they're different. Anyway, without actually fiddling with a latch mechanism in my hands, I would only be able to guess at what part of the latch to move to get it to open. At least we have a picture up for you, or someone to take a whak at...

Can you tell if it's the door handle that's not working or is it the latch?

I'm surprised no one has suggested a slim jim.

both... the doorknob somethings feels like it has some resistance and wants to open, but it doesn't. it seems to slip. the innerdoorlatch doesn't do anything.

btw it's a 67 squareback causing all the commotion.

OK the door is out. just some minor scratches on the door and pillar, it could have been much uglier if i lost it completely  ::)

so i was able to take it out by twisting the locking mechanism on the door and slide it eventually over the stub on the pillarplate. now i need a new mechanism. it was broken. so i did understand what to do with the screwdriver and i was indeed fiddling the right parts  ;D, but it was just useless as the part that catches into the part actually moving the lock was missing. it was broken off and i found it at the bottom off the door after i got the mechanism out.


so like i said, if anyone has a spare mechanism for a 67 (or later if that fits) i would like to buy one.
