To all that maybe interested the Ren Kafer Cup will return starting at the Bug In May 17th 2015 if you would like to attend please let us know by posting here so we have an idea for head counts. The rules should be posted soon on the Bug In website or you can call Rich Kimball. Or you can go at Bug In.com for more info.

Thanks

I was hoping this would come back! I started my 67 build to be in the Ren Kafer Cup, then it ended. Will it come to Sacramento as well?

Are all the rules the same, naturally aspirated only?

At this time as it was before no Turbo or injection. The rules should be posted on the Bug In site

Glad to see you post this up Frenchy. I did talk to Rich today for a bit about the potential of running a Friel Gruppe Car at the Bug-in 40, not sure which one. It sounds like there are still some minor details to iron out, but looks promising. I don't think the rules are posted yet on the site, but for the most part, the DRKC original rules apply. It was fun running DRKC when Kimball first started the class,..Cal Look Show Cars Running on the Track..what's not to like. The numbers started to fall I think in part due to the fact that there were some very very very fast cars that were obviously not street cars. It is important to remember it is an exhibition class, part show, part race. I would like to see the competition part of the class be modified slightly to allow the slower show Street cars to be more competative with the faster show Race cars. I think if the class is to start again, I think there needs to be tweeks to encourage car count. Its hard enough getting cars to get a full field when its strictly racing. Look at SS, SC and SG. Of course, it would be nice to have the class run its own lane during an event like any other class,...2-3 qualifier runs and then eliminations. I don't think this is the way the class will go. Just my opinion.

I totally agree. I'd rather see a huge field of slightly slower cars than just a couple quick ones.

I think supplying a spec pump 91 fuel to the racers would even it out.

I wouldn't suggest we eliminate the faster cars by requiring pump gas,..I love the faster cars. I just think a modification in how the "racing" portion of the DRKC is "judged" should be looked at. Who doesn't want to see a DRKC Cal Look car in the 10's? If there was some way to level the playing field as it pertains to awarding points on the track. Its a exhibition class. A lot of the original DRKC cars I ran with were DKP guys that cruise their cars on the street, 12 second magazine quality show cars. Some faster, some slower. Its a bragging rights class, and most of all is supposed to be fun. At the end of the day it's Rich Kimball and his crew that make the final call, just my two cents. Whatever happens, I am glad to see the potential  rebirth of the DRKC.

maybe modify the rules to allow fuel injection since more people are going in that direction and I feel their needs to be different classes based on e.t.

Ok, if no pump gas then how about making the show portion of the event have a bigger effect on overall scoring (show/go was 50/50, correct?)? Just my opinion, but I feel like some of the older DRKC cars focused more on the e.t.

Just a worthless opinion from a non competitor who wants to see a full field of clean street cars Smiley

DOT tyres, pump gas and drive it into the track. No trailers used to get the car to the event.  Cheesy

I would not have a problem allowing injection, as long as the TB size is limited.
If you limited the heads to a VW style casting, carbs to 48mm max w/ a 42mm vent or 48mm TB & 1 3/4 exhaust, this would limit the class.
This would be very easy to check & enforce. A huge engine would be limited with these parameters. I would love the pump gas rule, but it would be challenging logistic wise. I know you cannot make everybody happy, but if you targeted the majority & kept the car count up it would be successful. Just my 2 pennies.     Bill

I love seeing the chat interest, showing there is definitely a chance this may work. I don't think a re-vamp of the rules is needed, just a "tweek" to make the Race/show cars and the Street/show cars more on a level playing field.  Paint quality  build quality are equally judged on both cars. But when a car is obviously running a motor built to go into a Super Street car that's a gun at a knife fight. I say, use the RT generated and run at least one pass with a dial in. It is an exhibition class for fun and sometimes the planned three run get cut back to two runs only. I think it will work if you call the first run a qualifier and the 2nd and if 3rd run a dial in. All the numbers and MOV are on the timeslips and can be easily compared. The race portion would be determined with the best combination of Reaction Time and how close you came to your Dial in...more like real drag racing. There are no eliminations, time will not permit that and the playing field between faster cars and slower cars is more even. I am not trying to create more work for Rich, only trying to encourage more cars and competition.

Old DRKC rules with a twist on the racing portion. Run what you brung, race gas, pump gas, DOT tires or Slicks, 1200lb car 2200lb car, 9:1 CR motor or 16:1 CR, it doesn't matter.
