Title: LYNN ROSEVEAR OF AUTO HAUS PASSES
Post by: johnl on March 02, 2010, 16:32:53 pm
Good day all,

Last evening about 8:15 a call came from Tammy Rosevear to advise me that Lynn had passed away about 2pm in the afternoon.  Lynn would have been only 69 this June.  Needless to say she was a basket case and was there completely alone.  For those of you who are not up to date on Lynn and his medical issues go to:  http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,11554.0.html  Lynn's request was to be cremated and his ashes scattered on their property by the river in Washington State.  There will be no memorial service per his request, but I would encourage all who chose to forward a card or a post here.

Tammy advised me that Lynn passed in his sleep, but had been talking saying strange things all morning as if he knew this was coming.  He was in the hospital for 35 days and it was a very rough 35 days.  His request was to come home, but there were test to be taken to get released from the hospital.  He mustered up the energy to pass those test and came home I believe last Friday.

One Saturday mid day I placed a call to the Rosevears and Tammy answered and said "hang on".  The next voice I heard was Lynn's and although very weak I knew it was him.  We spoke very briefly and the very last words he said to me was "John, I love you".  I relplied that I felt the same about him.  I think we both deep down knew this would be our final conversation.

I worked for the Rosevears for 10.5 years and left the company 30 years ago this month.  For those 30 years I've received a call I think every year from Lynn around Christmas and sometimes even on Christmas day.  We started our relationship as employer - employee, but it grew far beyond that.  I was very fortunate to have such a friend and I feel lost today without him.

A call was placed by me to my long time friend and former co-worker at Auto Haus, Ed Craig.  Needless to say Ed was sad to hear of this.  Not much sleep last night, but a lot of remembering.  Lynn was a real goof ball at times, but he had a heart of gold.  Personally I owe much to him that I can never repay, but most of all I'm thankful to say he was my friend.

I'll miss you Lynn, so be at peace and go with God.

John, that's really bad news. I've been watching the other thread and willing Lynn on to get better, and I really honestly believed that he would. In this day and age, late 60's is far too young to go.
My thoughts go out to you and Christie as I know you knew him very well, and especially to Tammy and their family.

I've received a communication from Lynn's eldest son Lee.  I've taken the liberty of copying a few of the photos of his Dad and want to share them with you all.  I'm sure Lee wouldn't mind.

Sorry to hear the news.  I think one of the best ways for those of us left behind to "honor" the memory of our loved ones is to move forward with what they have passed to us through the years.

I've done some more reflecting on Lynn's passing and thought these words might explain my experiences with him better than I ever could.  I've always loved this song and now I feel the need to share it with you.  Corney, maybe, but listen to the lyrics and you might understand what life is really about.

So, with that said I dedicate this to my friend Lynn Rosevear....

John,

Thanks again for the call last nite.  Very sorry to hear the news about Lynn.  He was a great guy to work for.  There was never a dull moment around Auto Haus, and always enjoyable.  We can thank Lynn, and the entire Roevear family for that.

...Ed.

Ever since Ed told me this sad news this morning, I've been thinking about Lynn Rosevear.

I've always had a lot of respect for Lynn. He influenced my life in several ways. I used to be one of those guys that would let people walk over me. If I ordered steak and I was served hamburger, I wouldn't say anything and eat the hamburger.

Lynn once told the story of when he took his VW Rabbit to the dealer for an oil change and they added Risalone to the oil.  Well, he made a stink about it and they took the additive off his bill. But that wasn't good enough and he made them drain his oil, flush out the system and put in fresh oil at no cost. Now that may not seem like a particularly startling story but maybe it was the way he told it..but it sure made an impression on me.  I'm still easy going but because of Lynn's story, I will now eat the steak I ordered.

Also, I still laugh to this day about his rants on baseball and how stupid a game it is. <grin> It was funny because it was true!

I could go on, but I'll end this by saying... Lynn Rosevear made a positive impact on many people's lives.

I have never had the pleasure to meet Lynn Rosevear, but, from what I can see, was a very loved and respected man. I wish I would have met him, but I still respect him for all for what he's done for our VW comunity. So for this, again I send my condolences and prayers to his family, but also to all you guy's that did know and worked with Lynn. He may not be with us anymore, but will be in all our hearts.

Ted

     RIP Lynn

I remember like it was yesterday the first time I met Lynn at the warehouse near the airport in 1971. I was making my deliveries of the second generation of Empi 8 spokes and Lynn would sign my paper work if no one was available.  Lynn was a great person to talk to and if it wasn't for Auto Haus back in the days we did not have much other place to buy good product at a good price.

    Thanks !

I worked for Lynn for 3 1/2 years, I started at the warehouse, delivering parts to all the store's. then worked @ buena park store, costa mesa and then the orange store.
He always treated me well. He was a joy to work for.

Rest in Peace, Lynn.

I was a neighbor of Lynn's back in the early 80s.  Great guy.

Anyone know whatever became of his wife at the time, Cheryl?  She used to work at Auto Haus.

I came into work today (Saturday) to catch up on some things and found an e-mail from Tammy Rosevear to me along with others.  Here is the link from that e-mail that I thought some of you would enjoy seeing.  This is also a photo of Lynn I've not seen before, but what Tammy writes is pretty much dead on.  I hope you all find some inspiration in this.  http://www.redbubble.com/people/tkrosevear/art/4759026-1-the-gift-of-love

Another part of this sad story is this received in an e-mail from her yesterday:  "Lost our retriever the day after Lynn, she drowned in the pond – guess he wanted his dog with him…"

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and thoughts. The entire Rosevear family will miss my father very much. I was only about 11 years old when Auto Haus closed shop. Now 40, it's great to see how he touched so many lives. Though I was young at the time, I do remember many of you from my numerous visits. Growing up around the Auto Haus scene was awesome for a kid...experiencing the Bug In, Baja De Saddleback, and other race events. It seems Auto Haus stickers were everywhere. I have great respect for my father and his accomplishments. He had the heart to adopt me and my brother and give us both excellent childhoods. He always wanted the best for us, whether is was a new BMX bike, YZ 80, or great travels to places like several Club Meds. I'll miss all the camping and desert trips. Not only did he provide us with all the toys we could ever want, but the love as well. My dad was a very caring person. I lost count on how many times he went out of his way to help others less fortunate than him. I'm lucky to still live on the same Lake Elsinore land he purchased back in the mid 70's. Wanting his family closer, he helped me put a home on the back lot next to him. Everyday I walk around I'm reminded of him. He spent years helping me build my patios, adding a well, irrigation, fencing, etc. I stop in thought everytime I hear the wind blowing through the many Pine trees he helped me plant. Thanks to him, I have a beautiful place to raise my family. Though I wasn't as close to him the last few years when he moved to Washington, I'm very glad to know he absolutely loved it up there. They had over 25 acres on the Naches river. The river fed 4 ponds that encircled the house. Evertime we spoke, he would just rave on about the abundace of animals and beauty.....it's where he wanted to be. I love my dad very much and am sad to see him go. I'll miss his love, words of wisdom, humor, and all around good nature. Thanks again to all of you. Lenny Rosevear

So sorry to hear of the death of Lynn Rosevear.   My brother, Dave Deal, was the artist who made that wonderful Auto Haus logo for him.  Dave died 1 1/2 years ago.  Our family is still recovering from that loss....it takes some time when a giant of a man passes.  So, to the Rosevear family and friends...concentrate on the good times and think about the wonderful and exciting lives these guys had.  Oh yes...Dave drove lots of fast cars and in many wild races...he did some
things that most people only dream of doing....and he loved every moment of it.  There was a time when VWs were everywhere you looked....we used to count them on the road.  I still have my old 55...and I remember when David gave me a little oval sticker that he made for some guy in Buena Park....a little red VW...I liked it and stuck it on the dash of my car.   It was there for many, many years...and just recently removed and the whole car is repainted.   I wish I had
another sticker....... Diane Deal Tollefson

Thanks so much to John and you all for sharing such amazing stories - it brings me great peace during this very difficult time.
Lynn so enjoyed catching up with you all these last several months, since John shared this site with us and although we weren't very active in the forums, he read all of John's posts, as well as a few others.
As you may imagine, life got interesting, overwhelming and of course, I miss him like crazy...
With sincere gratitude and heartfelt thoughts of you all - thank you soooo much for your thoughts and prayers.
