Title: the list
Post by: nicolas on June 16, 2008, 12:25:51 pm
so what is there still to do to get to EBI?

here is my list:

engine!!!! i have to have one
brakes: residual pressure valves, bleed, check things
headliner: seems fixed, but not tested so might have to do it again; it comes down when i open the windows...
rear suspension: is a notch to low and the adjustable springplates are not fitted yet
front is not alligned, can only do it when i have an engine.

what i have done the last week:

headliner, refitted and made some perforations
batterycut-off (i like racecars  ;D )
tach mounted in the dash
empi padded wheel fitted and the horn made to work again.
brakes refitted after being reground.
cleaned the interiour
runningboards repainted
onepiece windows made work a bit better (still not perfect, but i am getting there. still no regrets fitting them  ::) )

hope everyone is still motivated to GET IT DONE  ;D

1. Sort 'some stuff' out.

We're taking a more relaxed approach to European travel this year.  ;D

Possibly.

install the fuchs caps on the rear wheels (axles are too long so I need a sort of an adaptor)
I have 2 drips (don't know the word for druipers, dutch guys help me out plz  :D) and I need to polish the car untill they are gone
install my new floorcarpet
make my dash look a little bit more attractive as it does now.  (I will weld it in the winter and make a super clean dash)
clean, polish, wax it the best I can
...

Hey Roland, that would be super!  how much do you want for them?  you can pb me so we don't mess up the topic.

Title: Re: the list

hey you guys are not messing up the topic IMHO, i would like to see people helping eachother out like this. so everybody can scratch things off their list and make it all to EBI.

 ;)

that's a fact...   ;)

Another thing...  I'm thinking on painting the "ears" on my 72 green like my car so that they are less obvious...  Nicolas, you have seen my car, (or others that have seen him)  Would it be an upgrade?  Should it be easy for a professional painter to paint that kind of plastic?

Title: Re: the list
Post by: nicolas on June 16, 2008, 21:44:59 pm
you can do it yourself, you just need to go to a shop and get a primer for plastic parts like rearvieuwmirrors, and a spraycan with the same colour. there are no great flat surfaces, so you might be able to do it yourself. it will be more subtle for shure.

My list!

finish sound proofing, about 80% done - man my fingers and back are sore!

Right here we go :

1 - finish off engine - fixing a oil leak from the dyno stand, plus general freshen up
2 - Bleed and refit x4 brake drums DONE
3 - MOT
4 - check tracking - seeing as its NEVER been done  ::) :)
5 - REFIT Engine

Well those are the main ones but there are about 20 other small jobs I can't be bothered to mention - Don't worry She'll be there  :)

Title: Re: the list
Post by: nicolas on June 18, 2008, 21:04:37 pm
had a phonecall today and if all goes well i might be able to pick up the engine next week... so i am getting nervous AND i will be changing the rear suspension to pass the time...  ::)

Title: Re: the list
Post by: lowfastbus on June 18, 2008, 21:42:40 pm
I had a "small" list off things to do:

fix cracked exhaust
service brakes
service engine

But when working on the interior off a AC at work today, I decided my car needs one to for EBI
So now the list also contains:

respray interior
make new custom dashboard
buy and install carpets
make door and quarter panels
recover those panels
...

If all goes well this could still be done...

I have install new doors tonight.  :)

I should make a very good cleaning and polishing of my car. Country roads are dirty  :-X

I bought a 1835cc engine from a friend, but time is a little bit short to install it. lots of little things to do I'm a waiting for some parts.  :P
And it has a Porsche cooling...

got some nice fat swayaway torsion bars from a special delivery (thank you so much Gunter!!!) and have installed them right away. even got some time left to go to the 'braderie' (open shopping day) with my wife and son.
all i hope now is that the car doesn't sit too much when the engine will be installed.

got a couple pics of the other work i did:

put in the empi steeringwheel with modified hornbutton (no rear cover, which i miss..) and connected the 'Zach tach'

some euro flat lenses (my first effort in weightsaving on the car)

Post by: nicolas on June 28, 2008, 08:35:32 am
well i am just not going to be able to complete my list... a big bummer, i will not have my engine ready for EBI...

got on the phone with Steve yesterday and it looks like the engine is not going to happen before EBI. so i am still considering different options to find some sort of engine and get there with the car, but racing seems to be a longshot. unless someone has a spare race engine he has no use for at the moment.
it is a big disapointment as this event is one of the few places here in Europe were i will be able to race and it is not going to happen. i even can't come in the car at the moment.
we talked about it yesterday and we both came to the conclusion that the engine a flaw that would not make it reliable at all and could mean the engine failed and make a big hole in my wallet without being able to have enjoyed it. so it is a sad thing, but a wise descission to better not rush things.

so if someone needs a racerticket... or a driver (apprentise) OR a masterplan to safe my day please let me know.

I am not sure to be ready too

you have an engine, i have a car. my car would love an empituned engine. hope it works out nontheless

and yeah it sucks, so i am looking for options to get the car there anyway.

I ask some friends if there isn't somebody who has a type 3 engine in spare. I called VDB, the guy with the white 62 notch, but no one. I will ask to Pascal Close from Bomal.
Maybe could you ask Steve to give you an engine for Ebi.

steve is trying to help me out and  i need to call a couple off guys that might have something. just by writing it (and being mad about it for 24 hours) it allready feels better. but i hate the thought of a stock engine in a callook (done it with bugtour), but i'll manage thanks for asking around allready, i haven't called anyone, i just went jogging. see the weightsavingtread  ;D ;D ;D, i am going to have to lose a lot off weight to make a stock 1500 or 1600 competitive  ;D

Hey dude Just read about your troubles - sorry to hear you won't be racing but as long as your there dude  :), even with a borrowed stock engine, ::) I thought my manx wouldn't be gettin there last week but its all ok now - I did 160miles yesterday and its all GOOD  :)

good to hear that! and i will figure something out been looking around and something has to pop up. AND i have thought about turning my car upside down like you did to fix it but to no avail...  ;D ;D

cheers dude

Would be no problem to throw on my truck and take it over to EBI, we arrive on wednesday, you could collect and install beforehand or install at ebi ???? if your interested PM me and ill offer you a cheap deal.......

thank you very much for the offer. PM back.

i have been working on the dualport 1600 i have, but that will not work out. one stud at the bottom of the case (that fits the tranny) is broken off, the heads are jetblack and the valves are brownish with a lot of dirt on them... not good. and the seal behind the flywheel leaks so i have a lot of work on that one to get it ready.

i hate the tought but i guess the only way of going with the car is on a trailer...

waxed the car like hell today
cleaned up the dash a little bit and tonight I will get the last missing pieces of the dashboard
got rid of the stupid tach holder on the dash, (it was useless because the tach is under the dashboard)
mounted my "ears" which are nicely painted, very good result as I say it myself.
cleaned the engine a bit.
finished the carpets

to do:
mount the fuchs hubcaps on the backwheels
some little things...

hopefully the weather will be nice, but they say it will be a rainy friday...  :-[   :'(

allright it is that week (again) to get everything ready to go!!!

now all action is at DDD6 and maybe the last time for us Europeans to be able to race before next year. so a lot has to be done.

i have done a few thing to the car since the trip to SCC and Norway. but there are some things to do.

DONE:
-i fitted new tires
- fixed the front steeringproblem
- passed MOT inspection
- fitted a new gearshifter bushing
- fixed the trottle cable slipping issue i had at SCC

TO DO:
- get the suspension right.
- i really want to fit the short trans, but it seems so foolish.  ::)
- window mechanism fixed.

so what are you doing, hope you are coming anyway.  ;D
