Hi guys,

recently I bought myself a msd setup but my old school vdo tacho wouldn't work with.  Did some reading and I found out a 8920 tacho adaptor would do the trick.  Now, I have a very old model I can use from somebody but this version has an extra wire.
The latest 8920 box doesn't have the orange wire anymore and I can't find a wiring diagram for the older models...  Angry  please help!!  If someone have the same setup or know something about this old stuff, any help is appreciated!

I wired it like this:

black: ground
red: + from iginition switch
white: on the tach output on the 6al box
violet: to the vdo tacho
orange: don't have a clue, and like this, it doesn't work...

thx,

Dem

nope, I have not tried that combo...  because msd writes down in their manual to avoid the coil for any output...  Roll Eyes

Have you seen the following PDF file? It's related to wiring an MSD 6 box/8920 tach adapter, and includes a reference to an orange wire from the the ignition box:

http://www.msdpowersports.com/pdf/frm22049_pn8920.pdf

You may also find the troubleshooting tips in the thread at http://www.msdignition.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3348 helpful.

Eric, Tom,

thx for the input guys.  I've read the posted links but they are all for the newer 8920 box...  I've logged in to the msd forum and I started a new topic.  I'll hope there is an old school msd dude out there to help me out.  Smiley
