That's what I thought to Richard. Some guy in the U.K. if I remember correctly repop them. Chris Morley sold them here in the States.

hey,

if you look at the close up of the EMPI logo you'll see that it's off centre, it's slightly to the right.

i have a reproduction one that came from Simon at The Paintbox about 10 years ago which is just the same, the logo is just off centre......

i can only guess as to whether these repro's were cast directly from an original or made up?? if they were cast from an original then they'll all be like it so it doesn't help!

maybe  someone someone on here has an original ( Fabian??) and can examine it to see if its the same or not??

or maybe Joe might be able to ask Simon at The Paintbox as i beleive he made/commisioned them........

Well from what I know about the Lids the ones EMPI made were all Gray in color ,they were all chopper gun fiberglass (not hand laid fiberglass) they had no frame work and had to use hood pins, as far as the add goes Richard I knew is was not a Repop thats why I bought it, The guy I got it from said he bought it a year before on samba I also have a Flat 4 Lid Black hand laid Fiberglass with frame work, when empi made the deck lids they were never Perfect so the emblem could be off. I have a Friend with an Original Lid And its Identical to this one. I put the two rear fenders on my 58 and duck taped the lid in Place, Its not the look I want on my 58 So I am Selling it I am going with my Original Plan Making a one off Steel Custom Deck Lid.   there were never any part# on them only a stick on label which is long gone now

The Problem with Repo Fiberglass parts everytime you make a mold off another fiberglass part it changes 7% so if you have a repop of a repop thats a 14% Difference as it is most fiberglass parts dont fit very well by the time you get a part that has been repo'ed 5 or 6 time's that part will be so far off from fitting

That's right but the thing with WOB (fiberglass specialist in belgium) is that he made a very good fiberglass decklid from an original one and then added the scoops on it. At the perfect place. So he got a perfect fittable decklid. 2 versions wher available a street one (tough) and a race one (lighter). That guy made a very good job on all the fiberglass stuffs he made. But I really don't know what happend with him since he disappears from the belgian VW scene... I dont use anymore that decklid now since I put back a convertible original one on my 65 beetle.

Yes Franck! Thats it...
