Title: Dyno tuning my new 1999cc engine. In car vid of second event. Bathurst.
Post by: colvw on October 28, 2012, 04:39:58 am
Yesterday i took my car to a local dyno shop to have my new 1999cc engine dyno tuned.

My mate Keith and i race at the New South Wales Hillclimb Championships here in Australia.

I race in the 1601-2000cc class, we previously had a 1916cc engine but decided to step up to a 1999cc combo.

We were both very happy with the result and look forward to racing hard in  2013.

Here is a link to the dyno run and the sheet below.

Is there an error in the dyno calculation or something ? An engine like that should peak WAAAY higher than 5600 rpm. More like 7000 rpm.  Or the cam is advanced quite a bit (?)

Well spotted, peak hp was achieved at 6800rpm, bottom scale on dyno sheet is not accurate.
Rev limiter is set at 7500rpm.

Makes sense now, I was wondering why the curves didn't cross at 5252.

Well done. How much squeeze did you run with that fk87? As it's a competition car I would expect 11:1 or more.

Have run a 11.7:1 ratio for many years now on pump 98 octane fuel ( we must use pump fuel as part of our class regulatons) and never had any issues with pinging.
Peak torque was 143 foot pounds at 5800 rpm.

My first hillclimb event for the year was last weekend.

Hope you enjoy.

Needs lots of mid range for Hillclimb racing, we have fast and slow corners depending on which track.
Power window is approx 4000-7200 rpm.
Close ratio box helps alot ;D

On Sunday we raced on the other side of the circuit known as Mountain Straight Hillclimb.

This is the fastest and scariest hillclimb in the country, i,m almost out of breath in 4th gear.

nice!

whats your suspension/ handling setup?
I have modified and narrowed golf struts up front with adjustable ride height and spring tension, with KYB inserts.
Heavely modified strut mounting points and lower control arm camber changes.
Rear Koni adjustable shocks, Sway Away torsion bars and adjustable rear sway bar.
Lots of tinkering and a secret squirell 4 wheel alignment settings :)
