Title: PowderPuff Racing In Europe??
Post by: Pump Gas on November 07, 2007, 16:10:48 pm
POWDERPUFF RACING IN EUROPE!!!

Kobus has already been approached by a awesome lady named Adele from the UK about having PowderPuff at EBI2.  We have emailed back and forth, and she is so excited to get PowderPuff in Europe going on for the ladies. If he decides to go with it, then I hope I will be able to get over there again for the EBI2.  EBI1 was a great time, and I would love to meet more people in Europe.  You guys & gals rock, and know how to have a good time.

I am excited for her also.  I had gotten PowderPuff started back in the 80's at Drag Day at OCIR, and then it just died down.  So this year, I approached Rich Kimball again after 20+ years, and he was all for it. (Thank you Rich!)

Adele has already approached the promoter of VW events at Santa Pod Raceway in the UK, and he said he is more than happy to accomodate the PowderPuff Series at 2 Drag Strip Based VW Shows in April & August.

Adele - You Go Girl!   :D

I would love to see it catch on over there - the ladies here are having a blast!  And I will continue with the PowderPuff for years to come!  We will be having it at Bug-In 33!  Good Times!!

Susy Herbert

Hello Susy!  :)

The main idea behind this is to run it along with RWYB days at Santa Pod/Avon Park Raceway /EBI and possibly Le Bug Show in Belgium next year! All pending confirmation  :)

I spoke to Susy about the idea of running a Powderpuff class this year at EBI, then thought about the possibility of running at Santa Pod, Avon Park and Spa!

The aim is more a bit of fun for the girls just like it is in the US, just trying to test the water at the moment to see if there would be many females up for it! Trying to find out who really would be interested so i can work out numbers and best locations to run them, plus organise the sponsorship!

If any of your 'significant others' would be up for it please let myself (or Susy!) know and if possible where you would prefer to race and what dates you could make ? At all of the above locations? Avon Park but not Santa Pod? or just Spa and EBI vice versa :)

Thanks

Adele

Count Mrs Flatfire in. EBI or Santa Pod. She also likes Avon park as Stratford has nice shops.  ;D

A potential 12 second bug. 8)

Sal would probably run at either SCR or EBI (or similar) in either my skip or whatever else we have lying about at the time.  :)

If it is Avon park it would be more convenient for a VWDRC round. This year OFF were there at the same time so hopefully it would be the same for 2008.

I'm sure Bug Jam would also give the racing a large exposure to a Female audience. Just a thought IMHO and all that.  ;D

Adele & Ladies,

Just got an email back from Kobus, and he said he loves the idea, and he is going to have a PowderPuff Class for the ladies to sign up for at EBI2!

Yea Kobus & Bug In Team - you are the men!

Adele - Take that and run with it.  Good luck with your mission, and I know you can do it.  All the ladies in the US are having a blast!

I hope to get to Belgium for EBI2, and that way I can be apart of the PowderPuff Ladies for the weekend.  (well not racing), but to support them all!

Take Care,
Susy Herbert

And yes,  Adele is very motivated - and I have NO DOUBT in my mind that she will do such a wonderful job getting that class all together!  I am just glad she wants to do it in Europe.  She has taken on a big job, and it can be very time consuming, but she will come through with flying colors.

Yea - PowderPuff VW Racing - US
        PowderPuff VW Racing - Euro

Maybe Japan is next??  It could happen!   ;)

We have to say THANK YOU for starting this . I think i posted sometime ago that we tried this in Bitburg very often but never got participants . Looks like we get some driving ladies in VW's . The most problem is that their boyfriend's  don't let the girls drive their cars . This is what we had in Bitburg . But it seems we have some more ladies out there that have their own cars  ;)

Udo,

Always a pleasure to try and get something together for the ladies. It has taken off well over here!  And the smiles, make it all worth while. So many ladies and even their husbands/boyfriends have come up to me and thanked me for getting this going again.
I have such a wonderful support team, especially my husband Mike.

It is so wonderful that you are supporting Adele on this whole idea.  She is really excitied to see how this goes over there, and I will be here supporting her in anyway possible.

I spoke to her on the phone the other day, and have emailed back and forth several times.  It seems like she is a little like me in her thoughts and ideas.  I am really looking forward to meeting her and Steve.

Yes, alot of ladies do have their own cars now, and I know some of the guys over here, are putting together cars for their Girlfriends/wives to drive.  So that makes me even more excited!

Take Care & Thanks again!   :)

Matt & Udo,

I really want to come to EBI2 next year.  I just started a new job (finally), and I will give my new boss some big hints at the beginning of the year!  I will at least wait till after the holidays, and after he sees my work!

Mike wants to come for a couple of weeks, and if I can go, I will probably just be able to fly in for the race, and then fly out after.
Will see!  I will keep my fingers crossed!  I have already looked into flights!

mine loves the car, maybe too much, as she is afraid to mess it up. but i told her callooks are only happy when raced... so i try to convince her with a lot of arguments, but so far no luck.

Udo & Karin  - great keep them coming!  The more the merrier!

I think the closer EBI2 gets, more ladies will be excited about it, and want to get involved.  Just because they don't see or post on this forum, does not mean they are not out there.

I was posting the PowderPuff class on the Cal-Look Forum, and I figured with all the posts that I got back, that there was only going to be a few more from last time.  But 20 cars signed up - WHICH WAS SO AWESOME.

Just a reminder. Make sure you spread the word to all your friends out there.  Adele & I want to see lots of ladies racing and having a great time!  Afterall, that's what life is all about! GOOD TIMES!

Udo,

Not sure about Adele yet!  I am sure it depends on her back, and how she is feeling.  I hope she can race alot, and I hope to see her race at EBI2, along with Karin, and the other ladies!
Yes. Kathie at Berg's has done really well, and has had a great time getting back into it.  Dee Berg did really well also.  It was great to see them both out there.  I worked for Gene & Dee back in the 80's, and have been friends with them before that!  Awesome people to hang out with!

Really looking forward to meeting and seeing everyone again!

Sorry i've not replied on here for a little while! Back Op over, all Spinal Corsetted up and in physio! :D

Back to business.......

Susy and i have been sorting out the bits and bobs, and i will be contacting guys who offered sponsorship, thanks to Russell and Udo included!

I hope to be out this year, and i hope to be able to bring the car to EBI and race it !

Udo,

I would like to run powederpuff at Spa, however i have not approached the guys yet, also would depend on numbers too ?

Avon Park have also thrown their weight against the series, and have offered several dates if we want them. If we can get enough interest i have a possible weekend in mind in October, again i think we would need 8-10 ladies to go ahead with it !

Ingrid & JR,

That's great.  I remember Ingrid at EBI! - she was pregnant and not racing that weekend.  I have a great photo of here standing next to her car with the name on it.
Ingrid (I-Girl)

Sorry I will miss you guys this year - but my husband will be there to help support the ladies that are racing!

Adele is doing a great job with the PowderPuff in Europe, and I am really looking forward to seeing & meeting her and Steve at Bug-In.

Take Care & Good Luck!

Susy

Hey Kobus,

We are either basing it on, Quickest 3: Best time of every lady at the end of the weekend
or Bracket, but then the ladies may need more runs than they may get, to get used to their dial in.

Or how about the smaller differnce between your best and worst run?? Most consistant??

Title: Re: PowderPuff Racing In Europe??
Post by: SteveW on March 26, 2008, 15:10:06 pm
Yeah that's pretty much the same idea we had also! We'd write down each and every time that the girls run and work out who was the most consistent so they dont have to dial in any times! We're meeting up with Kobus this weekend so we should be sorting it then!

As a side note sponsership emails have gone out (to those we have addresses for!) and so far we have 2 sponsors for the girls along us,Vintage Air.

Udo Becker tuning
Torben Alstrup from Morepower.dk

Thanks guys for your support!

We make ET-Backet runs each weekend at Bitburg and every competitor can choose his own index . I think the best way would be qualifying on Saturday (own Lineup for the ladies ) and Sunday bracket racing .

Thanks for the support everyone! As Torben says the more girls the better!! There is a limited number of spaces available for all drag racing so if you have any lady friends interested please sign them up as soon as possible!

The two top prizes for the girls will be quickest female and most consistent. We have some very special prizes to award aswell as a goodie bag for every girl entered!

On a side note Jo and I raced in Powderpuff at last weekends BugIn and had an amazing time!! Thanks to Susy, Mike, Richie, Martin and especially Steve D for the loan of the car!!

She has registered, we filled in the form a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunatly we saw Kobus's post afterwards telling to people to mark powderpuff next to the name.
I did send a covering email to confirm Heather was entering rather than submitting another.
Her friend has yet to register i will find out more tomorrow. Unfortunatly due to the paint shop dragging their heels her car is still sitting in primer.

Thanks for the note Adele

Adele,

24 more days - oh my, it is getting close.  Looking forward to being there with you,  the PowderPuff ladies and the rest of the awesome people that will be there.  :D

I know Adele is working really hard to get this all together, and she is making it really special for the ladies, so please, if you have not contacted her with your shirt size (like she said) - please do so today.  I am getting them done over here, and will be leaving on June 28th to fly to England.  And I know she wants everyone to have one, and it to fit you with the proper size.

Take Care & See You Soon!
